Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

SingaporeNeed to walk far from the main entrance. The path to the property require a lot of stamina to ascend the steps. Not friendly for elders / big luggages. But is good for me as we had very minimal carrier with us. The bathroom is spacious and useable. It come with very very simple design.
Facing the hill with maximum privacy. Corner unit. The air con is on and ready for us during arrival.

BelgiumOnly one bathroom shared between a few rooms and no seperate sink or toilet. Rooms are very small and basic and there's not much noise insulation.
The accommodation is basic but it's a good budget option if you want to stay in Juifen. The owner doesn't speak much English but is very nice. The view from the place is great and there's also free coffee.

NicaraguaThe bathroom is a little subpar for Taiwan (for a lot of other Asian countries, it would be normal) with toilets in the same room and no separation whatsoever on the floor. You must be autonomous as the family is not speaking english and is rarely visible anyway (but the young woman welcoming you and giving you the keys is nice and try to help with Google translation). There is one bathroom-toilets for 4 rooms. It is a 5 min walk from the end of the old street, so maybe 15 min from the bus station, going up (I wouldn't advise carring a heavy suitcase). To chat before arriving, I had to use a translator.
This is a family house so you won't find the super clean-modern equipments and rooms as in a lot of hostels in Taiwan. There is a system on the matress to heat the bed, which is essential. It was calm, but there was no other guests (all rooms are in the same small corridor apart from the main house). You still have hair-dryer, water dispenser, umbrellas, etc. and some welcoming snacks. It is individual rooms, not dorms.

CanadaThe home is very old and needs updates. Only bath towels were provided with no face towels. The snacks given were stale. Toilet did not seem clean enough.
There are two entrances which allow you to go out without bypassing the common area.

First off, its very basic so might not suit some people but for us it was really nice stay. Small cosy room with comfortable bed close to Jiufen Old Street. Hosts didnt have any English but were friendly and check in was easy even with the language barrier.

SingaporeLinyuan Village required a deposit to confirm the booking, which I got my Taiwanese friend to help via bank transfer. They might allow full cash payment on the day itself, but didn't confirm this with them. They replied my messages via Booking.com's chat portal at first, but later insisted on messaging through LINE app. A bit of a hassle to download the app and find their handle.
Not the newest place on L2 but the view from this place is good! The room felt cosy and bed is comfortable. Walkable from the touristy part but has a lot of stairs. It was fine for me - I had a backpack, not wheeled luggage. I was the only one during my stay so had the shared toilet to myself. The local elderly couple helping out knows only Chinese so take note. I was able to check in before 10am. Had a stomachache on my last morning there but the uncle was very kind to tell me not to rush myself checking out. The aunty told me about the pharmacy nearby too.

SingaporeThe walls are not soundproof at all so I could easily hear people in their rooms. The place is also kind of difficult to find and quite uphill. So if you have heavy luggage, best to reconsider.
Cute family-run homestay place run by a granny and her son and granddaughter I believe. The room was clean, bed was comfy, and they were very kind.

You can't expect 5* hotel in narrow streets of Juifen. Anyway, the place is better than it looks on photos. A heated bed was great (I was here in January).

NorwayVery heavy smell of damp in the bedroom. Very dirty common areas-they weren't dusted for long time. The village itself is just a tourist trap.. it's all about crowded night market these days. Is it worth visiting?! I expected a totally different thing.
We were able to check in earlier. The owner was ok with cash payment on arrival and didn't insist on prepayment via bank transfer. We got clear instructions with the pictures how to find the place and there were some orientation signs in the streets.

TaiwanLinyuan village’s friendliness and enthusiasm have been a pleasant surprise, alleviating initial concerns about the hostel's location at the end of an old street. This unique location has allowed us to explore the area more thoroughly. Additionally, the thoughtful provision of FREE snacks in our room makes our stay feel even more reminiscent of visiting our grandparents' house—a truly welcoming and comforting experience. Note: remember to open the desk drawer to find treasure (full of snacks)
