The rooms are really seedy and old fashion and not updated. The shower crappy.

The rooms are very small and lack some modern amenities like a fridge and microwave. Also no real desk. The vibe of the hotel is also a bit stuffy from my perspective although some might perceive this as "fancy and nice". They also use physical keys rather than keycards, and don't secure access to upper floors where the rooms are at the elevator, which makes me nervous about security.

The room was clean and functional and the hotel had real soul and character, which feels rare these days sometimes when traveling. There is free coffee in the mornings from 5am, including decaf, which is very nice. The staff was very friendly and the included breakfast was good. The location of the hotel is incredible.

We decided to extend our stay from 4 nights to 6 and the verbal rate given us by the front desk, which my husband and I both remembered, was higher once we were emailed our final bill....despite our reaching out to dispute, it was not adjusted. The hotel could use a shot of freshness...we love its history but it started to seem a bit generic and the surprise of fresh flowers or a modern sofa here or there would be an inexpensive way to save it from cliche. When we first arrived the check-in was less than cordial and welcoming. The breakfast room was a pleasure to start the day in...however, the pastries were more than lackluster and less than fresh.

The history of the hotel and the care which the cleaners took in tending to the nooks, crannies and knick-knacks. The breakfast room is lovely and the small daily quiches were surprisingly good. Our room had an interesting view and was nice and bright. We also liked the variety of sitting areas throughout the hotel.

It’s not very comfortable and it stinks

It’s old authentic and amazing, I liked it better then the university that was my actual purpose of the visit. Looks like it could be a place for filming exclusive horror like Suspiria

I would not say I did not like but the hotel is a historic older place so newer modern items are not included. For us it was part of the charm. No TV but while traveling my husband and I rarely turn one on so did not miss it at all.

Great location. Lots of restaurants to walk to close to hotel. We were there to attend a show at the Greek Theater and this hotel was within walking distance which was perfect for us.

Appreciate the historic charm and feel but bathroom could use a little touch up, eg somewhere to put soap/shampoo in the shower, some tile grout cleaning etc.

Quaint cozy rooms. Charming facility. Towels were plush. Appreciated the infused ice water in the lobby, access to.a fitness room and daily breakfast. Walkable to restaurants and Berkeley campus.

A beautiful hotel. Nice maintained grounds and building we had a great time. We used the pool , played Bocce and enjoyed a nice drink at the bar.

The central location near the UC Berkeley campus, the architecture, the welcoming environment that made you feel like a member of a club. The breakfast inckluding the coffee was very good.

Old world elegance at its best! Room was small but clean and well maintained. This is a historic property thus it does not have all the modern conveniences, but there is Wi-Fi! The indoor pool designed by Julia Morgan is FABULOUS! Make sure you schedule time for a swim.

Room: was a bit small but okay. We had NO hot water in the shower, so had to use the warm water from the bathroom sink to wash up.
