Just over a mile and a half from the village of Ennerdale Bridge, deep in the heart of Ennerdale the B & B has easy access to Alfred Wainwrights Coast to Coast and other walking routes. We are at the end of a private single-track lane with no through traffic, surrounded by fields and grazing sheep from the neighbouring working farms. With no light polution we have outstanding night skies.

Christine & Roger Parker moved to Ghyll farm at the end of 2003 having been visiting the lakes on walking holidays for a number of years. They hope to provide the high quality of accommodation and facilities that they demand themselves. Ghyll Farm ceased to be a working farm in the middle of the last century and now consists of only our home Ghyll Farm, Ghyll Cottage (a private residence) and three B & B rooms in a seperate barn conversion. The barn has recently been lovingly renovated to a high standard, with as much thought to the environment as possible. Many materials have been recycled and the heating is by the latest specification Biomass wood pellet and solar heating system. We try to be as environmentally friendly as possible, whilst maintaining the degree of comfortability and standards our guests demand. We recycle as much waste as is possible, all food and vegetable waste is composted. Ghyll Farm takes its name from the small stream that runs through the property and alongside the track. Red Squirrels are seen regularly feeding in the garden. Buzzards, Tawny owls, Goldfinches, Goldcrests and Greater Spotted Woodpeckers are frequent visitors. In the summ

If something a little more energetic appeals to you, the Ennerdale valley offers many opportunities for outdoor activities and adventure. The valley provides the best of locations for walking, biking, climbing, riding and canoeing. One of the last wilderness valleys in England, Ennerdale is home to one of the longest running “re-wilding” projects, where Galloway cattle freely roam and the river's left to find its own course through Ennerdale forest. The Wild Ennerdale Partnership allows the landscape to evolve naturally with minimal human intervention, whilst encouraging the public to explore and experience a unique sense of wildness. The whole of Ennerdale is home to just a handful of people. Whilst the land is still worked as traditional Lakeland hill farms, the diversity, complexity, and survival of its archaeological remains sets Ennerdale apart from other Lake District valleys. The valley holds the most impressive collection of valley bottom Bronze Age and domestic medieval archaeology in the Lake District.
