I noticed that there is no small convenient stores or just a quick facilities to buy little things in the corner or along the streets. I needed to make a list of all my daily needs before I go back to the place or I have to do a quick run to the convenient store or groceries to buy bags of goodies for my entire stay, or order a quick meal via grab or other facilities. Medium sized city to forget Manila for a few days. Tagum is not crowded, is cleaner, not so polluted, there is Nature very close to the city and the rivers are clean. The food is great, mostly the seafood, so fresh, tasty and affordable. Even home delivery food has good quality, much better than in Metro Manila for the same price or sometimes less. Neighbors are respectful, friendly, clean and quiet. They do not go annoying each other as in Manila. Samal is a quaint and beautiful island. There are some nice places like the Monfort Bat Sanctuary and the Giant Clam Conservancy. I went to the white sand beach for swimming. Being in a channel, the current was swift so I couldn't really go out beyond the swimming area, and it suddenly gets deep as well. It's 34 years since my last visit to Davao, and I was thoroughly disappointed! Except for the addition of some nice-looking high-rise buildings and some additional corporate buildings, no real change for the better! The first thing you see is the airport terminal, and it's a poor joke. It's a tiny, filthy, cramped, over-crowded building, with inadequate seating throughout, and it's supposedly a terminal. It should be demolished immediately. Try looking at Clark, Pampanga, as an example of what a terminal can resemble: a clean and spacious serviceable building. It's a dirty, poorly organised city. Whoever has been mayor or councillor has done it a disservice, or ripped off money! It's not much above a slum. Malls and dirty buildings like Gaisano Mall should be demolished.
