Set in a 100-year-old Welsh cottage with thick stone walls, Maes y Gwaelod is 1 mile from the village of Llanwrtyd Wells and 3 miles from the train station. The cottage is nestled in 20 acres of scenic countryside and situated down a quiet country lane which leads to the forest trails of the Cambrian mountains. Free WiFi is provided in each room at Maes y Gwaelod, as well as a private bathroom, flat-screen TV and countryside views. There is a lounge with a log burner and a TV, exclusively for guests. The property is also home to dogs and horses which live in the on-site barn. Guests are also free to bring their own horses which can be accommodated. Packed lunches can be provided on request. Horse riding, cycling and hiking can be enjoyed in the local area, and staff can take you to the starting points. Mountain bikes can be stored in the barn and free on-site parking is available. The B&B is situated only 12 miles from the Royal Welsh Show ground.

UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT FROM MAY 2016 Maes Y Gwaelod (which means bottom field in English)is a small family run bed & breakfast set in glorious countryside just a short walk from Llanwrtyd town centre. With lovely views, recently updated bedrooms and luxury bathrooms, it is the perfect place for a break from the rat race. We have bridleways and footpaths that can be accessed directly from the property and have lockable storage and washdown facilities for cyclists and walkers. You can also bring your horse on holiday as we offer large airy stables and turn out facilities.
Steve and I moved from Scotland to Powys in May 2016 and instantly fell in love with the area. We have a small Welsh pony stud and breed and show our ponies. It is important to us that guests really enjoy their stay and we are always happy to talk about Maes Y Gwaelod and what the area can offer. We so enjoy what we do and hope that this enthusiasm is felt by our guests too.
Llanwrtyd Wells is the smallest town in Britain and is unique and quirky. There seems to be something happening every week and there is a happy, friendly atmosphere throughout the town. Everywhere you look there is beautiful, accessible countryside. This truly is a place that you will want to return to time and time again.
