Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesIt was advertised as a 5 star hotel but I feel like that was a bit of a stretch. Hotel was a little understaffed. Breakfasts were great, dinner was good, but the tea was just ok (felt it was a overpriced for what we got).
Unique and fun location especially with kids! Very nice beds and linens. Great breakfasts.

CanadaIt isn’t a castle no walls, keep, nor towers. It is a very interesting two plus century manor house with lovely grounds.
Lovely restored period rooms with furnishings appropriate for the castle. Great food and staff.

United KingdomCould have been more choice for evening meals. But all that was on offer was excellent .
The castle is tucked away in wooded area down a long country track. It is very pretty setting like a fairy tale castle.Staff we’re relaxed and welcoming polite with no airs and graces.Room was huge and comfy four poster.Open fires in main reception areas have a homley feel.We we’re able to roam freely around the castle and grounds as it is very much a family home environment .Breakfast was excellent good quality and plenty of choice. Both hot and cold options available .Very unique and slightly quirky experience

The beautiful castle and its history, beautiful decor, original features, fabulous . The breakfast staff namely Julie and Jen, they made us feel so welcome and we had a great chat to them, they are a credit to the castle! Lovely breakfast

United KingdomA minor niggle - but the driveway up to the hotel could do with some attention.
As one might expect, this is a hotel with grandeur and old world class. Our room and bathroom were huge (has anybody else ever used a four-poster bath?) and the decor very much in keeping with the castle. The beds were nicely firm and there was plenty of hot water. The lounge and dining room were comfortable and the staff friendly and attentive. The food (both dinner and breakfast) were delicious. Obviously it is expensive, but if you think you deserve a treat, this is a great place to stay.

United KingdomSome of the outside furniture & areas could do with a little TLC but this went with the concept & desire to give guests a unique experience within a family owned country house so wasn't a major issue for us. As one guest aptly put it Augill Castle is "perfectly imperfect" & this is what makes this venue unique.
We loved the building exterior look & the quirky, shabby chic interior style, it is full of character & the staff & owners were very friendly & eager to make our stay a pleasant one. Our room (H) was fabulous, it was big with a very comfortable king size 4 poster bed, large bathroom & had access to small turret rooms in it....we stayed 2 nights & had dinner both nights which was excellent, on the second night the meal included a jazz evening with a fabulous pianist & a brilliant vocalist, they were both excellent and delivered a highly polished set of songs which were a joy to listen to....

United Kingdomthe dinning room did disappoint a little as it was not furnished as expected the furniture was too modern for the surroundings and did not seem to be in keeping with the rest of the rooms. It would be nice if the staff wore a coordinated uniform -they were dressed a little too casually ie jeans - black trousers and crisp white shirts would look much more appropriate .(my taste)-(Although this did not detract from our very enjoyable stay)
The location was fabulous .The interior of the Castle was mostly in keeping with the period .of the property - The food served was exceptional and was excellent value. The staff were quite young but they were attentive and efficient they did a good job.a credit to you .
