How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

The shower was a bit tricky, small and not very powerful. The TV was small and difficult to see from the bed, but these are not major issues. For us, our vision is not great so a bigger screen is better.
The location was great, very quick walk into town and Jan was so welcoming and kind. The bed was very comfy and the room was spotlessly clean, it was a relaxing stay. The fridge on the landing with water and additional beverages if needed was a nice touch. The breakfast was outstanding and we will definitely book again.

We cannot fault the guest house.
Its very friendly, the guest house itself is very clean and homely, the room was really nice and clean and the breakfast was fantastic. We will definitely be coming here again.

The parking was on the roads around the guest house, we prefer to have parking on site or in front of the premises.
Lovely guest house, spotlessly clean, very large room with a very comfortable bed. The breakfast choice was excellent and there was a supply of ice cold water, coffee, tea, magazines etc on the landing.

Absolutely Fantastic Guest House. Ideally Situated just a few minutes walk to the centre. Lovely Comfortable rooms with everything you need. Beautiful Breakfast and Jan and Dean were fantastic hosts. Will Definitely return.

My only issue would be the size of the shower as for me it was small. But I would not mark that against them. It would not stop me from going back or recommending them. It's merely an observation, not a complaint.
Very nice room, clean and spacious the hosts Jan and Dean were a pleasure to talk to, very helpful and knowledgeable. Would happily go back and highly recommend them.

Fantastic host, nothing to much trouble. Liked the fact that we were shown the room and where to get extra tea, coffee, water & milk. Superb breakfast.Nice walk into town.We will definitely be back

It would have been a bonus to have a sea view!
The owners were very friendly and helpful. The property was very clean and extremely comfortable. It was close to the town centre and the beach so didn't need to use my car. Only a short walk to lots of eating places and places of interest

The breakfast was great tasted great and very well presented. The cleanliness was exceptional. Distance to the pubs , shops was less than wat I expected. Jan was very welcoming and helpful with suggestions of places to go to eat in Whitby . Was also nice to meet dean . Would definitely stay again .

Beautiful B&B, just a short walk to town, spotless, the bed was amazingly comfortable, the breakfast fabulous with quality products. Free parking on the street just outside, great products in the bathroom including body lotion which is something that a lot of hotels don't provide and the host was so welcoming and very knowledgeable of all that the area has to offer.

From the minute we arrived we felt at home .Jan and Dean were really welcoming and nothing was too much trouble .The rooms were nicely furnished and the bed was extremely comfortable .Breakfast was superb with a good choice of everything The location was great ,only a 5 minute walk into the town centre We wish we could have stayed longer
