How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Excellent location! Our host was super kind and helpful and gave us really good suggestions, and even invited us to a local pub quiz! Nice breakfast and the room and facilities were extremely clean! Would love to return here and to the island in general!

Was offered a hot croissant and coffee brought by a lovely, friendly staff member. Good selection of cereals, fresh fruit and bread/ pancakes that could be used to make toast with a good selection of spreads. No cooked breakfast if you prefer that - but I don't eat a cooked breakfast anyway.

Sound proofing is low which woke us up early but not a real issue.
Location is great. Our room was small but lovely and facing the bay. Super clean. Good bed. Great service and hospitable staff.

The folks running this place are so kind and generous. It is pristinely clean inside and you can't beat the location, just a few hundred feet from the Port. Great spot to start the 3 Distillery Walking tour, they have a nice breakfast lounge for your use at anytime with even a small fridge for guests to keep their snacks. We really appreciate the service and the location!

Bathroom not in the room but very clean anyway. it would have been much conveniente to have the bathroom in direct access to the room but it remain manageable
Room very small but cozy and confortable. Staff is very kind and helpfull. I do recommend this place for those who are spending only few days in the Island

Would have been nice to have some shampoo, conditioner and body wash in the bathroom. A couple of the heaters didn’t seem to work.
Clean & kitchen was very well-appointed. The location is great and the host is very communicative.

The bed was a little hard for my liking but beds are hugely personal. Otherwise it was brilliant.
The breakfast facilities were brilliant, as was the location (right next to the ferry terminal and a short/moderate walk to the distilleries on the south coast)

What was there not to like?
I cannot praise the staff highly enough. I was looked after so well. The staff were charming, chatty and always helpful. The continental breakfast was plentiful and the variety of choices were excellent. My room was comfortable, warm and clean.

The property is being renovated for the summer and I think there was fresh paint somewhere. The room is bit tight with the 3 of us having suitcases and clothes for 5 days.
The staff are excellent. Well-informed about things to do and where to buy the things we had forgotten to bring! Beds very comfy, linen felt new. Room very quiet. Breakfast room ideal for meeting the other guests, playing chess, homework, microwave for takeaways.

Top Location on Islay. Near the Water, calm, everything possible on Foot (shopping, restaurant), even Laphraoig destillery (or Ardeg and Lagavulin in some time)

I can’t say enough nice things about this place! We booked rather last minute and it was the only place left in town. We weren’t expecting much but boy were we surprised! We had a room with a detached prive bath which was clean, conveniently located and much easier than it sounds. The room was so quiet and comfortable. By far the best part was the staff!! A rather large storm came through, canceling the ferries and forcing us to change plans. AJ was SO helpful with weather, ferry schedules and even packed us a breakfast to go as we had to leave early. I would definitely stay here again and recommend to my friends.

Nice location close to the dock so, a bit loud at times. Walking distance to pubs and restaurants. Very clean, very friendly staff.

The signage could be clearer. We arrived at night and missed the driveway and missed the driveway a few times.
Arrived late at night, but she left our key in the door. The breakfast, mostly continental, was filling and nutritious. The guest house is situated very near the ferry port, so once that's done, it will be a very convenient location. It's also within a 30 minute walk of just about everything you would want to find in the area. The distilleries are about 10 - 20 minutes farther. Unfortunately, the weather was very wet and windy, so we didn't have the chance to hike, walk or bike the area. Overall, a lovely spot to spend your day in Islay.
