Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe surfaces (bedside tables, chest of drawers) were dirty, there were hairs in the sink and bath, the tap in the sink was splattered with toothpaste and the bathroom extractor fan was filthy. There were some antibacterial wipes provided, so we were able to clean things, but given covid is still a risk, the hygiene situation was quite concerning. I had requested a gf breakfast weeks before our stay, as they claimed to cater for dietary requirements, but once seated for breakfast, I was told that there was no gf bread as they had burnt it, and hadn't got any more. Our room was adjacent to the dining/communal room and check in desk, and so was quite noisy. After breakfast on day 1, I was in the shower when I heard knocking on our door, followed by the key rattling in the lock. Someone was trying to get in to do 'room service', luckily I had left the key in the lock, or I would have had quite an embarrassing experience! I think it would be pertinent to ask/inform guests about the timing of room service! Overall we were very disappointed. We visit Devon every year and always stay in guest Houses in this price bracket, but this is the first time we have had any issues, and have always rated them highly.

United Kingdom- Traffic noise early morning (from before 6 a.m.), which is not a problem if you have the windows shut, but is extremely noisy if they’re open. As it was 38C on our first night, we had them open. If you like to have your windows open in the bedroom, you need to book one of the twin rooms, which face the back of the property. The double rooms (numbers 3 and 4) face the front. On our second and third night, it was cooler, so the noise was not a problem. - The reaction of Harry to us mentioning the noise was not what we would have expected from a professional. He said it have never been an “issue” before and was quite offish with us the following day, although he mellowed on the next day. As far as we know, the couple in number 3 didn’t mention the noise, although they certainly had a lot to say about it and the bed and bedroom size to us. - The size of the bed, bedroom and shower room/toilet. We are both slim, so I don’t know how larger people manage, but the double bed is presumably the smallest size you can get. The bedroom is very small, with room for only one chair. The shower room/toilet is extremely small. - The access to the busy road as you leave the car parking area. There is room for 6 cars, which is OK so long as people park sensibly. There is a bit of shuffling around in the morning to get everyone out, but that’s not really a problem. The problem comes when you are leaving the car parking area. Because the road is very busy and there are vehicles parked on both sides of the road, including opposite Coombe House, traffic is passing fast on the side of the road you’re trying to get out on to. The downhill traffic is particularly fast as they rush to get past the parked cars before another car comes up the hill. It is quite dangerous. - The price of £110 per night per room is presumably the norm in Sidmouth for a 4-star establishment.
Very handy for Sidmouth (5 mins by car), which has a lovely esplanade and is not too busy. Also very handy for the Donkey Sanctuary, which is only a few miles away, has free entry and is part of the largest donkey sanctuary in the world. Extremely pleasant staff and a lovely restaurant. All profits to the donkeys! Good cooked breakfast, especially scrambled egg. Excellent choice of marmalades and jams. Lovely local yoghurt.

United Kingdomthe room - smallest ever room, very hot at the hottest date so far in record, planned in advance, no fan , no fridge and couldn’t move around the room. headboard was dirty - host Harry was a lovely old man but had dirty nails and serving breakfast (which was nice on first day and terrible (not cooked enough on second). he could hardly walk bless him, far too old to cope with front of house. we had to buy a fan. we didnt want to pay full price - but he took full payment the night before we left. booking.com didnt give enough information or informed hosts to make provisions for the coming hot few dates.

United KingdomWe had booked a ground floor room. When we arrived we were told we were being put on the first floor. The reason, given reluctantly, was that a couple had booked in for a week, and requested a ground floor room. We had requested aground room. Because my wife has a very bad knee, and finds it very difficult to climb stairs.

United KingdomSome of the rooms are marketed as for 2 people, but has just one bed which is 1.5 times the width of a single bed. If you are 2 people and are not particularly small in stature (e.g 5 foot 6 or 1.7 metres tall and with an average weight - not somebody who is severely obese), then check very carefully by phone that there will be enough space for you to sleep comfortably. This B&B has only a few rooms - you may find a response of "sorry no other rooms available" means complaining doesn't achieve anything and the money will be charged to your credit card regardless
