Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Nice vegetarian breakfast and lovely surroundings. All of the staff we met provided a great service. Bed was comfortable and I found the hotel to be quiet.

United KingdomRooms very out dated, scratches all over the walls, paint missing, cables left on the floor not connected to anything. TV had a mind of it's own coming on and off. Really needs redecorating.
Team were very helpful and welcoming, swimming pool was nice.

United StatesComing from the U.S, it was difficult because taxi and Uber are not as plentiful in the area. The front desk was helpful, but we felt they could have stepped up a bit more. The facility was great, but we were outside of our expectations and would have liked a little more support from the front desk. However, DO NOT let that discourage you, this is a great place.
The facility is clean and spacious. There is plenty of privacy if you want or enjoy some time at the spa or pool. The food was very good and the service they offer is great (room service on hot foods until 9.30 p.m). All the staff was helpful and delightful any time you engaged with them. My wife and I recommend this to those looking for a nice getaway. This wasn't our initial destination but turned out to be a happy accident. Traveling from the U.S, we were caught off guard on some circumstances, and the Macdonald Craxton Wood hotel & spa was a great alternative!

United KingdomThe only thing I didn’t like was I could hear ? Squirrels on or in the roof space early in the morning.
Check in was quick and easy. Room was warm. Clean. Lovely en suite and Elemis toiletries Tea coffee and a kettle in the room along with a water jug and glasses (filtered water tap outside the room nearby) Lovely view of the lawns and garden at the rear of the property A nice touch was robes and slippers were provided along with the fluffy white towels! Breakfast was superb! There was plenty of choice of cereals jams toast cheese ham fruit and pastry’s to help yourself to whilst the full English options (bacon, sausage rolls and all hot items) were taken at your table (along with tea/coffee orders )and cooked freshly. Dinner was available in the evenings. We had rack of lamb (£34) and catch of the day which was trout (£18) and a bottle of wine (£27) it was all very nicely cooked. There were other options like fish and chips (20) and a curry I think. There was a nice bar/bar area and access to outside for smokers The hotel is a spa hotel and guests are allowed to use the lovely pool sauna and steam room for free with options to book a treatment or upgrade to use the thermal suite for £20 I think. We just used the pool and sauna. I’d seen several spa hotel when I was booking and you had one hour per day you were staying or you had to pay £20 each upwards for using the spa so this was lovely it was included. Lovely staff The hotel states it has a gym but we dis not use this. A lovely stay and would go back.

United KingdomLovely hotel but not as nice as pictures portray. Upgraded my room to superior double but underwhelmed by the room. Also had to pay an additional (fairly pointless) £3 additional charge at breakfast for eggs benedict. Seems unnecessary when we paid for breakfast included in our room already.
Staff were lovely and very helpful.

United KingdomWe travel a lot. The breakfast was not good. We had booked in at a time, then had to wait 15 minutes in a que, the coffee mugs weren't washed properly, the staff and to much to do and didn't give you any time, and the food wasn't edible.
The spa facilities were nice and the staff were nice although need more beds. One of the staff members on reception was great, the other not so much. Our room was a nice size. 20 minutes from Chester so great location.

United KingdomPool gets very crowded during the child friendly sessions. Also isn’t obviously manned by a life guard. I’ve had one visit when our door was banged on very loudly at about 9:30am by house keeping when check out isn’t until 11am which isn’t a great experience. Also one of the check in staff wasn’t very professional during checkin. When I asked if that’s everything, during checkin, she snapped “you haven’t paid!” Which seemed odd considering I was asking her what needed to be done next. Then I asked if she had already given myself or an other family member the card or not, and she “joked” “I’m holding it back to stop you from doing a runner” I get it was a joke that didn’t come across well maybe, but considering I was prompting her to see what I needed to do next, I felt like it was quite rude. It’s not a cheap hotel, and we stay quite a lot so it seemed unnecessary. Usually the checkin process is excellent though.
Most staff are excellent and very helpful. Nice swimming pool.

United KingdomThe cocktail bar… we’d had a day out visiting family then came back to the hotel and had a late swim and then went to the ‘cocktail bar’ for a few drinks. There were just seven cocktails to choose from, which was a little disappointing in itself. We had the one drink and got up to order another and were told the bar was closed. It was only 10.30pm on a bank holiday Friday. So that was it… the night was over and we returned to our room. Very disappointing for a ‘residents bar’. There was nothing else to do in the hotel.
Good value for money. Use of the swimming pool, sauna and steam room all included. Good breakfast selection. Staff very friendly and polite. We booked a standard double room. We stayed in room 120, which was on the ground floor. Lovely and spacious. Great garden view. Room is starting to look a little dated but for the price we paid we had no complaints. Comfy bed. Visited nearby ‘Ness Botanic gardens’.

United KingdomThe room needs to be redecorated and although the staff were very pleasant there were many inexperienced staff and they seemed to lack leadership. There was a very noisy aerobics class in the pool which spoiled the relaxed spa vibe.
The hotel has the potential to be excellent but it's a little tired and understaffed.
