Rooms bit dated, few cobwebs in the room & we were in a noisy location possibly above the kitchens

We preferred the restaurant to the bar...the service was better the night we ate in the restaurant as it had been very busy the previous night when we ate in the bar. The bar wasn't very comfy just to sit and have a drink, and felt more like just somewhere to eat, so we had drinks in the lounge.

Excellent buffet breakfast. Lovely spacious room with a wonderfully comfortable bed. Dinner was very good, and the chips were amazing! The staff were friendly and attentive and overall the hotel feels more luxurious than the price suggests. We actually stayed for two nights and had an upgrade to a superior room in Rose cottage which was lovely.

The food at night wasn’t bad but it wasn’t great. £17 for a burger that wasn’t that big and the chips were a little undercooked. Just felt it was over priced. Pool was great but swimming lessons were on and a good chunk of the pool was closed for 1 child to have a lesson. It was also very busy and there was like 4 swim teachers there using up 2 tables. For 1 child haha

Breakfast was great as were the staff. All very friendly. Room was a decent size, balcony a really nice additional feature which was great.

It was very expensive for the room that was very dated and they had a Jacuzzi bath in there that was full of mould. The bathroom was very rundown. At nearly £300 a night, they need to sort that out the room is not at a higher standard and the windows didn’t even shut. I understand that it is an old building but for the money we paid and had awful nights sleep we all did and we paid for two rooms for the rest of our family, and that was a standard room, and it seemed to be better than the suit

Only there one night and didn’t eat in the bar

I posted a review for this hotel a few weeks ago. I gave it. 7 rating. The hotel called me to follow up on my review and I thought this was really good customer service. On my next visit they had what appeared to be upgraded me into one of the cottage rooms. I can’t fault this for taking feedback seriously hence the improved score of 9 this time. I’m staying again tonight for 3 nights so will review accordingly again

Nothing really, a wee bit cobwebs on the corner of the high ceiling above the large bedroom window and on the top of the curtains but fairly trivial. However, think it worth flagging as you may get a client (s) who would make a far bigger issue of it than we would so best to be forewarned

Room was very spacious , nice big bed and breakfasts were beautifully cooked fresh both mornings. All staff we encountered were pleasant, courteous and efficient.

I thought the staff in the bar could've been friendlier and more engaging......they looked like they didn't want to be there. The TV in the room would be better positioned further along the wall to the middle of the room, instead of facing the sofa, as it wasn't practical to view from the bed. Also the heating in the room took some time to come on and warm the room - it would've been better if the heating had been put on in the room prior to arrival. The heating in the hallway of the cottage was too warm by contrast, so much so I turned the heater control down to bring it to a sensible temperature which worked.

I found the room excellent and loved the cottage set-up - very unusual. The food in the bar was very good, as was the breakfast in the morning. The value for money aspect was excellent.

We arrived 2.10 but check in wasn’t until 3 and we were made to wait. I was told room wasn’t ready but at 3 there were lots of people waiting to check in that were in the bar. I think there could have been flexibility even if they asked us to pay extra. I’m sure the rooms were ready but they stick to the 3 pm check in. I had 10 mins to get ready as I had to be somewhere for 3.45.

Only thing outside our room there was a corridor door which was heavy so every time it was opened it rattled our door, first time I thought we had left door open and someone was coming in, which made it a bit noisy in morning when people checking out.

Pool etc was lovely, room was clean, food was delicious! Room was nice and warm as it was freezing outside. Staff very friendly. Would definitely stay again.

Historic building in beautiful village setting. Exceptionally friendly staff - made us and our puppy really welcome. Great swim in onsite pool followed by wonderful afternoon tea.
