The Dragon Hotel is really more of a B&B. I was there on a Friday. I'm beyond the age of looking for a loud music bar or nightclub on a Friday night. But when I returned to the hotel at about 10.20pm, I discovered that thhe hotel did not have a bar, where one could relax with a drink for an hour or two before retiring. I was also looking for somewhere to reat on the Friday evening. There was a Brasseries, which seemed to be attached to the hotel, though it may be independent of the hotel. But when I went there to check the menu, I was told it was closed. I don't know if this was just the Friday I was there, or every Friday. Whiile the hotel's central location is easy to get to, and near the railway station, I found that the traffic noise from early in the morning can interrupt sleep if one is a light sleeper.

I found the staff to be friendly and excellent in every way. When I went for breakfast in the morning, the server was already aware of my food intolerance issue. Brilliant communication, therefore, between reception and the breakfast room.

The hotel itself seemed tired. It was a large hotel but didn't seem to have any character. The windows in our room were bad, one seemed to be jammed shut with mastic of sorts which didn't stop the wind coming in.

The room, after being moved, was comfortable and clean. Breakfast was nice.

Very tired looking and and in places dirty. Our room was comfortable but again in need of a bit of tlc The breakfast wasn't good Food was cooked to within an inch of its life and obviously cooked well in advance we had to wait for fresh food to be cooked and even then there wasn't enough to go around. Having stayed at this hotel quite a lot over the years I feel it is struggling which is a shame. Still only one lift working which has been like this for far too long. Come on Dragon hotel !

Only one lift working, the working lift was often dirty. Bed was slightly uncomfortable, felt like we had two single mattresses together instead of a double.

The foyer on level 3 really stinks of cigarette smoke which was horrible and depressing making a very bad first impression- I guess it must be in the carpet. But the bedroom itself smelled fine. The air conditioning was cold, but daughter was able to resolve this by googling the manual. Clear instructions beside the controls would help the less IT literate guests.

Staff were excellent and warm and helpful. The rooms were comfy and clean.

All good. Clean, tidy, well-equipped and well priced. Previous reviews talk of it being a little tired which may be true but we’ve stayed in much worse and paid double and triple the rate.
