How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

The heating system is awful! I cannot stand these thermostat controlled systems which either blow out warm air or freezing cold air. It kept stopping, then it would start again in the middle of the night. There were no instructions on how to use the thermostat, so it was more guess work. I asked the reception staff about it and they just said you press the on button! I don’t think they knew what to do really. There are hardly any plugs in the rooms. There were only 2, none of them are near the bedside, they are on the other side of the room, which was annoying. There were no drawers in the room, only open shelves to put clothing etc, which isn’t great. No instructions on how to use the TV either. It was a complicated system, but managed it in the end. It just would have been helpful if there were instructions in the room for things.
The location is fantastic, just around the corner to the Royal Mile. The room was a good size, lovely comfortable bed, nice shower room. Very clean. The staff were lovely. The breakfast was great, lots of choice and lovely food. The restaurant was really good too. We ate there every evening and the food and service was superb.

Didn’t like the module bathrooms . Like a prtavanin in your room . That was the only downside . Everything else was excellent .

We were staying in a twin with disabled access and the door to the bathroom was very stiff to open which posed a bit of a problem for my friend
How clean the room was , the location of the hotel and the staff were very friendly and welcoming

Bed was very hard. It was also very loud - I could hear everything from traffic to partying from my room so didn't get a lot of sleep

Step up into bathroom takes a little getting used to.
Breakfast was excellent and efficient. The location was fantastic. Easy access to train, bus, restaurants and Royal Mile.

The bed was a bit of an issue. It was merely a futon with a mattress pad. It was very uncomfortable. I wasn't a fan of the bathroom pod, but it was completely functional. My main gripe was the uncomfortable bed.
The room was large and had plenty of room for everything. The view was excellent with a large window. The staff were friendly, and the accommodations were great & quiet. It was a great value in a fantastic location. Would stay here again.

The location was perfect, just steps from the bottom of the Royal Mile. The room was comfortable. The staff was fantastic! I will definitely stay there again on a future visit.

As stated earlier making a booking for after the show.
The location was perfect as we were going to the Festival theatre. The timing of the show was such that it was too early to eat before the show and we hadn't booked anywhere local for afterwards, and it was a Tuesday.

The room we got was so loud it was impossible to sleep. Luckily they changed it after we complained. The rooms are very basic for the price we paid. The rooms were clean but still there were things that were dirty, like curtains or corners of the bathroom. Also it was not clear for me why they didn’t leave hand towels in the rooms, I had to ask in the reception.

Apparently, they didn’t know we are coming with two people, so I had to pay for the second breakfast 40 GBP before getting into the room. They mentioned this is a booking issue with booking.com but we not willing to compromise on anything. Staff seems to be incentivized to squeeze out of a customer what they can. Therefore my last stay…
The hotel is very centrally located in Edinburgh old town. We could park in front of the house for loading/ unloading and park the car in the partner parking lot nearby. Hotel was clean, breakfast good, comfort standard in ibis.

Good location, very basic but comfortable room. My dog was with us too and she felt just as welcome with a bed and dog bowl. The staff were friendly also.
