Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesEasily the best B&B I’ve ever stayed in. Rooms are squeaky clean. Bathroom is prestige. Beds are comfy. Service is excellent. Breakfast is delicious. And the lactation is breathtaking. Margaret was an amazing host. She helped me with booking the ferries and other reservations since the day I booked the property. I am glad I got to spent my 3 nights in Islay in this beautiful country house.

Everything! The house was stunning, you couldn’t ask for more. It is close to the port and distilleries. I liked everything! The host Margaret was a great lady. We were so welcomed on arrival, and through our stay! Our ferry were cancelled and we need to leave our car at the port to secure a spot. She came pick us up and dropped us off on the next day. Prepared not just breakfast but a food hamper to get us through the day at the port Askaig. ATM, we are waiting at the port for our chance to get on the ferry. We are so grateful that we have met Margaret.

We had an amazing stay at Kilmeny, Margaret is a fantastic host. Our room was perfect with a huge comfy bed, along with being immaculately clean. There was luxury touches in the rooms and even including a thoughtful gift as it was my partner's birthday. Not forgetting breakfast, which was 10/10 for both days we stayed, plus delicious homemade cakes.

United KingdomEverything was perfect.
This was by far the best B&B we've ever stayed in. The attention to detail was amazing, with everything from the beautifully presented rooms to the way the table was dressed in the morning. We were greeted warmly on arrival and Margaret had the kettle hot for us, and a large dram of whisky. But it didn't stop there. We were immediately upgraded, there was the most delicious home baking every morning and night, and Margaret had useful local information and amusing anecdotes. And the breakfast! What can I say? It was utterly delicious with a huge variety of yummy things that no one could resist. My husband said it was the best eggs benedict he'd ever tasted, and he's normally hard to please. This place rivals any 5 star hotel, we loved it.

United KingdomThe location of this place might be a little bit tricky for cycling and hiking if you don't have a car. The bus schedule leading to this place is not all that convenient, but if you're driving, this would not be a problem at all, oh, and those bloody midges.
My stay on Islay nearly turned out to be a disaster if not for this lovely hotel and the fantastic folks running this place. I was drunk from the warehouse tour of Bunnahabhain and pushing my way back to the hotel, and nearly turned into a succulent Chinese buffet by local midges. But after a hot water bath and some tea accompanied by homemade cookies, I finally feel like a civilized human being again. Not to mention the extra food and the hospitality of the mistress running the place. It turns out there is a detailed guidebook in every guest's room for all sorts of things on the island, including laundry place, restaurants, sightseeing guide, and most importantly, midge warning that I should have read before I rushed for all those whiskeys! The midge season would be from April to October, according to the guidebook in the hotel, so choose wisely if you're going on foot or cycling. Back to the country house, the room was clean and tidy. All housewares and setups were authentic and beautiful, reminding you of some exclusive, private holiday cottage, with homemade cookies and a generous amount of tea, hot chocolate, and a full tea set, which sadly, due to my busy schedule, didn't get utilized too much. The bathroom has a shower, a bathtub, and even a TV that you can watch while submerging yourself in hot water after a long day of cycling. The best thing is they have all the accessories, like single-serve flippers, a toothbrush, and a grooming kit, so don't worry if you forget to bring a comb or some cotton buds. They even got a small bottle of Laphroaig whiskey prepared for the guests in the room, so you can have a taste of some Scottish whiskey before going for all those magnificent distilleries on the island. In the end, this is an absolute gem on Islay, and if I have the privilege of visiting here ever again, I'll definitely choose Kilmeny Country House for my stay again.

United StatesThere's nothing to complain about!
Everything about this place is lovely. From the moment we arrived we were greeted with the nicest and warmest welcome, shown to our rooms which were adorably decorated and stocked with a full tea tray and home made cake. Breakfast was delicious, and made entirely in house from fresh local ingredients. Margaret and Blair were incredibly helpful with food, taxi, and activity suggestions, and when our rental car popped a flat tire they were lovely in assisting with alternative options. The whole experience was one of the best I've ever had and I cannot wait to return for even longer!!!

United StatesThat we couldn't stay longer. Besides that?? Got nothing, folks.
Kilmeny sits atop a manicured hill overlooking the electric green countryside -- which can be enjoyed from several sitting areas. It's also a working farm. A crew of handsome cows live there and seem to enjoy life along the tree-lined driveway and field. We liked them. We liked the owners, too! Margaret and Blair are warm, welcoming and engaging hosts. They're good in the kitchen, as well. Breakfast begins with a buffet of stewed fruits, granola, mueseli, bread and cake. All of it is homemade. Even the delicious marmalade. You can nibble -- a lot -- as your main selection is being whipped up to the sounds of sizzling eggs and quiet chatter. Our room was clean, with pretty finishings, tea, coffee, fresh milk, oatcakes and a dram of whisky on the first night. There was a beautiful stand alone tub in the bathroom. It provided a perfect coda to a day of Islay exploration. (There's a separate shower if you don't enjoy tub time:) Kilmeny is well located. It's close to the ferry and Bowmore but feels very far away from any city or town. It's like a remote paradise where the incessant drumbeat of daily life quickly dulls. This beautiful home-like place was more than we hoped for. We loved it and want to return. Thanks, guys!

United KingdomEverything was perfect, even the weather, and we didn't come across any midges! We made friends with the farm dog, and really loved the remote location and beautiful gardens overlooking the working farm.
Warm and hospitable hosts, immaculate accommodation, amazing home-cooked breakfast and cakes, beautiful location with wonderful views - our stay was perfect. Margaret and Blair went out of their way to make us welcome, and the attention to detail was outstanding. All the food at breakfast was homemade or locally-sourced, where-ever possible (eggs from the farm's own flock, locally-sourced smoked salmon, home-made Scottish pancakes, home-made bread and cakes) - as well as plentiful fruit, including rhubarb and melon, which was all beautifully presented. Margaret is an amazing cook. Our room had a TV in the bathroom as well as the bedroom! We had a wonderful view across the pretty gardens to the the open landscape of Islay. In addition to our bedroom, we had the use of the lounge as well, which is very comfortable and has a stock of interesting books on the islands. On the day we couldn't be there for breakfast, Margaret made us a huge packed breakfast, with homemade flapjacks and cakes, fruit and rolls, all of which which lasted us the whole day as lunch and tea as well! Kilmeny allows for privacy and relaxation and we were very comfortable. Our stay at Kilmeny, which is located in the centre of Islay, was absolutely wonderful - thank you to Margaret and Blair.

This is one of the few places in Scotland fitted with proper air conditioning which is essential during summer given the biting Flys that pervade Scotland in summer.
