Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomRoom 101 is quite noisy as you can here the radio playing in the bar area from 6am to 10.30pm. Is it the Mereside or HQ?
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The shower was very powerful although the cubicle was a little small.

United KingdomNot a deal-breaker at all for me but the bedroom furniture (drawers & wardrobe) was not well put together so doors stick, just could be better.
I enjoyed great stay here. The bed is comfy & room clean. Breakfasts were very good and the staff all really friendly & hepful. It should be noted there is a bit of a hill up to the hotel, not bad though. The lift in the hotel means no stair climbing is required.

New ZealandWe really enjoyed staying at Mereside as it was so handy to the Promenade, as well as other amenities. Alex and the breakfast staff made us feel very welcome and it was clean and comfortable with a good breakfast.

United KingdomThe bed was too narrow. There was no food served in the evening and at lunchtime that week. The bar was rather basic and didn't have any atmosphere.
The location is great. So close to the seafront. Nice and quiet. Parking looked a challenge, but it was OK. Breakfast was excellent.

IrelandI stayed at Mereside for three nights. My room was on a second floor, and easily accessible with the lift. My en-suite room was very clean, comfortable, and spacious. It was a quiet room and there was a good view over the street. The room had two windows, so it was nice and bright. The breakfast was very good and offered lots of variety. All staff I encountered were very pleasant, helpful, friendly and highly professional. The property is located just off Central Promenade, and at the junction of Mona Drive and Empire Terrace. It is about a ten-twelve minute walk to the main shopping streets. There is a bus stop very close by on Central Promenade. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Mereside.

NetherlandsThe pullout bed for our boys has lost its will to live and is not a decent place to sleep on. It was fine for our one night stay, but at that price the quality of all beds in the room should be sufficient. The room itself is on a tilting floor (i felt my gastric acid come up my throat as i lay in bed) and as the building is old noisy other guests are heard clearly, especially those above you. Curtains were not properly blocking sunlight, which means an early wake-up in summer, and the shower head could do with some descaling. These are points that would not have bothered us in a 50 pound b&b, but at almost 4x that price the hotel should do better.
Very tasty breakfast and a good location in the middle of the Douglas promenade. Our room had a view out to the sea and was spacious for our family. Everything was clean enough and had big windows. The staff was absolutely lovely and the restaurant/bar downstairs ver comfortable with good quality food and drinks.

United KingdomIt It wasn’t easy to find a nearby parking space in the street. Not the hotels fault. There were areas in the hotel and room that needed some tlc.
It was in a good location to the centre of Douglas. The room and bed were comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful. Nice to have a bar and outdoor seating onsite.

United KingdomHappy with everything. Room is serviced ever other day but we were quite happy with that.
Nice big bedrooms, great bathroom, and the breakfast was excellent with great quality food - perfect bacon and tasty quality sausages! One of the best breakfasts I have ever had when staying away. It's really easy to park for free in the surrounding streets, probably the best location in the bay for ample parking. There was a lift and an accessible en suite shower room for my elderly parents which made it perfect.
