Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaThe smoke alarm is sensitive if you’re frying anything, even with the extractor fan on full. The stairs are steep but good hand rails and typical for the type of property.
Excellent location - Easy to walk into Harrogate through Valley Gardens. The host was easy to contact if there were questions or issues. There isn’t a dedicated car parking space but we always found a space on the road outside. It’s a bit narrow, especially if you’re from Australia, but it’s typical for the area and after a day or two we were used to it. Efficient heating so a nice, cosy cottage.

CyprusParking was a bit of a challenge In a bigger car. Steep Staircase was a challenge for older guests, heating a little challenging and no instructions but a colder property. A little tired door missing off washing machine, curtain hooks hanging off wall. Comfortable enough but an average stay.
Great location in Harrogate, walking distance to centre

United StatesThere needed to be a few more ‘essentials’ soap in the bathroom, more garbage bags, basic toiletries you would find in a hotel room.
The location of the property was good. You could walk to town and it was pretty quiet. Parking was ok, not assigned but there was always a spot. The size and price was good for Harrogate.

United KingdomI think there had been a dog in before us as my family all had allergy symptoms, so its worth noting this if you have allergies. The only other thing was that there was no tea towels. Stairs not suitable for small children or those with mobility issues.
Excellent location and free parking. Very well resourced and clean. Beds were very comfy and it was quiet and homely.

United KingdomCouple of minor things like light bulbs not working, bathroom mirror over sink being too high to be of use; also the staircase, which was very steep, did not have a tread and I was concerned someone may slip on it.
The cottage was comfortable and well appointed. We had everything we needed. Location was perfect for convenience store, Valley Gardens and town. Also not far to the nearest bus stop.

NetherlandsThe shower was in the bath, but it took a long time for the water to drain. ( clogged drain?) The fire alarm went off a lot, even if you were just boiling water. That was a nuisance.
Nice, clean house with a big kitchen that has everything you need in it. It was nice that there were teabags, so we could make a cup of tea. Super clean sheets and some extra when we asked for them. Great.

United KingdomThe lack and tired state of some kitchen things. One of the baking trays needs replacing, there is no large jug or mixing bowl which when you cook a meal you need. I missed some form of welcome book which would have been useful for working the tv, heating, and dishwasher, also where to put waste and recycling. I think some form of small seating outside would be great, I appreciate it’s a small area but like the neighbour has, 2 chairs and a small table something like that would suffice. One last thing, there are too many beds and not enough storage in the main bedroom. No way should 8 people stay here!!! 4 or 6 at a push but not 8 !! If one bed came out there would be room for wardrobes which would be far better than bags and clothes everywhere. Just a couple of things to think about which would certainly improve the stay.
The cottage was clean and the decor was lovely.

United KingdomThe parking was a little tricky with the cottage being at the end of a cul-de-sac. We always managed to park although getting out wasn't easy due to other cars parking in what should be the turning area. The only other small negative was having to be very careful on the staircase especially when carrying things upstairs and if you have mobility issues its probably not the right place for you.
The location was excellent, within walking distance of town centre and very close to Valley park. There is a Sainsbury's local a few minutes walk away. The beds were very comfortable and the room we used didn't have single beds as the photo shows but were in fact doubles. We felt the cottage was spacious but there were only the two of us.
