Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomAs usual at Otter Cottage a "home from home" experience. Clean, tidy, great facilities and excellent support, if needed, from the host/owner. Location is beautiful and a very nice stroll along the canal into central Inverness. 5 star all the way.

United KingdomThe bed was rather uncomfortable, if you suffer in anyway with a bad back it’s far from ideal. The hot water was hit and miss, sometimes it was too hot and sometimes there was none. A shame on both counts as the cottage was exceptional and would have been 10/10 if not for those two things.
The location was excellent, close to Inverness and everything it has to offer, and overlooking Caledonian Canal, couldn’t have been better. The owner left a breakfast pack a very nice touch. The cottage was very nearly exceptional.

United StatesThe cottage was wonderful! It was beautifully decorated, clean and included everything we needed for a comfortable stay. I appreciated that there were instructions available for how to use all of the appliances (being from another country, not all appliances work the same as what we are used to, so instruction manuals were very helpful). The view is spectacular and the location was great - close enough to be convenient to Inverness, but in a peaceful area.

United KingdomThe cottage was very well presented and clean and the views were brilliant. Our dog loved the water being right outside the door, it's quite popular with locals walking their dogs so she also loved playing with other dogs out there. She'd also love to sit and people watch out of the window. It was our first time in Inverness and will definitely be back as it was a lovely break away and the cottage is gorgeous. There is a train line behind the cottage but you don't even notice it's there, the trains are very few and far between and you hear none overnight.

United KingdomA few of the ‘supplies’ had run out eg. Salt & pepper, dish washer tablets. And the boiler tripped out on 2 occasions and had to be reset by self. All very minor issues though!
The location was superb with beautiful views over the canal and sea. Lovely walks from the house along the canal and nature reserve.

United KingdomCheck out a little early but didnt take away from a great stay, and this check-out does seem to be getting earlier everywhere now.
We really loved this property. It had everything and the view out onto the canal was lovely. It was a nice quiet location with everything you needed nearby, great walks for the dog along the canal and the host very helpful and accommodating. Check in was easy and own parking space is also very handy. It was perfect for what we needed. Just wish we had stayed longer.

United KingdomMy only things were the mattress was a bit hard for me and my partner, also we felt like a lamp in the living room would have just set the mood with the log burner.
Loved that it was open plan and very spacious. The dogs found there to be plenty of space also.

er unit was a wee bit unkempt - not a major issue for us but I can see that it might impact other visitors more. The cottage has no secure garden area and we have two large dogs who are used to the back door being opened and allowing them to run free - just meant we had to get them on leads before going out - that being said, we had guessed this might be the case and were semi-prepared for it. We loved the location though (with the exception of dog poop left by some irresponsible dog walkers including a lovely present in the parking area - it’s bad enough cleaning up own dogs mess!). Sorry for the rant - the cottage itself was just right for our needs and we hope to come back.

AustriaWe had a wonderful two night stay this summer. The location and the Cottage are sublime. From there we discovered Inverness on foot with nice walks next to the Ness and the Caledonian Canal. The Cottage has all you need and more. It would be great to spend a longer holidays there, thanks to the ample space, fireplace, terrace and all needed appliances. Location is a bit outside the centre, which offers you quiet and relaxation, glorious views and marvellous sunsets. We will be back!
