Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomComfortable sitting area could have more relaxing chairs for guests. The 7 'relaxed' seating chairs available aren't so comfortable. These could be replaced with bigger seats with better support, removing the 2 small dining tables would allow for more comfy seats as these filled up fast.
Our stay at Riverdale Hall Hotel was so relaxing, we completely recharged our batteries. The staff provided outstanding service, all were exceptionally polite and helpful. The food was lovely, with lots of choice, particular mention for the slow cooked feather blade steak. Mouthwatering. The pool was an added bonus too. Accommodation was clean and comfortable, if a little dated. The hotel is well situated for getting outdoors and into nature. There are some beautiful walks. and only a short driving distance for Kielder and all that it has to offer. We would return again when the batteries start to run low.

United KingdomThe pool area looked a little tired.
The room was nicely decorated ,spacious and looking out on to the River Tyne which was nice. We had dinner twice in the hotel and it was pretty good. The staff were very knowledgeable helpful and friendly. The facilities were good. Enjoyed the sauna.

United KingdomWe didn't realise it was a dog friendly hotel, which is not a problem for us, but the room had a little doggy smell about it, which can be a little off putting for non doggy people.
The view from our room was fantastic, fields and the river. Breakfast was really good and everything piping hot. Staff were all really nice and helpful. They even got the chef to cook us up a lovely evening meal before opening time as we were going out early.

United KingdomThe only negative is that the hotel is a little tired/dated in places. However, this didn’t detract from our enjoyment.
Really comfy bed and pillows - comfiest hotel I’ve stayed in for ages! The room and bathroom were extremely clean and the staff were exceptional. We had an evening meal in the bar, and that and the breakfast were very good.

United KingdomThe bar meal wasn't the greatest and not a huge choice for vegetarians, but understandable given it was off season. Its an old building and some minor renovation or updating of the decor would be worthwhile, though many will like the traditional country look.
Really enjoyed a one night off season stay in a lovely location. Perfect for what I needed. Think I was upgraded to a better room as it was very quiet. Nice to have the option for a free swim and sauna. Good locally brewed beer on tap in the bar. Great walks in the area. Friendly helpful staff.

United KingdomThere was a bit of an issue with hot water (but not heating), which the staff were very apologetic for and did manage to resolve. The pool was uncomfortably cool, but I understood that it was connected to the same boiler issue.
Food is amazing, really thought out, and well presented. While the building is a bit worn, it adds to the character of the place. The staff are amazing - I can't emphasise this enough. They are friendly and approachable, and you can have a laugh with them. I've been here several times and would always come back.

United KingdomIn my opinion, the facilities have gradually deteriorated over the years. The standard of behaviour and dress of guests has become more 'informal' and the restaurant menu isn't as good as years ago. I enjoyed the fillet steak option and the old fashioned school dinner choice of puddings with custard - sadly, no longer available.
I've stayed at The Riverdale Hall Hotel a number of times over the years, and used the restaurant separately many times. I like the location as it's a handy stopover when travelling North.

United KingdomHowever, was still some rubbish on my balcony on arrival and the attentiveness of staff wasn't as good at a lot of smaller B&bs ive stayed at.
Bit of mixed emotions at this B&B, the sauna and pool were great to have use of and the pool was a great temperature. Dinner was cooked really well.
