Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe heating in the room did not work. I contacted the property and didn’t get a response so we were a bit cold whilst in the room!
It was a lovely clean property, nice tea and coffee facilities and a shower. The bed was extremely comfy and the location was perfect for what we wanted to do in Whitby. I loved the aesthetic, the ammonite door handles were fab!

United KingdomThe furniture in the living room were a little bit worn, looked dull and dated, but not dirty? The heating were not set very well, come on in the middle of the night so wake up sweating and then cold in the morning when we get up and had to put fire on! Suppose to tell 'Alexa' to turn on/off heating but didn't work.
The location were excellent for us as we were in the Pavilion all weekend. We were all self catering, so no food were included. Some took their own food and were very pleased with all the facilities.

United KingdomParking is a nightmare, paying in advance for parking doesn’t guarantee you a parking space. They are very strict with 4pm check into the property which I really don’t understand when you have to check out at 9:30am! We were given a code from 1:30pm because it was ready but we’re not allowed in. The double room was great and in the middle of the property but the back room was soooooo noisey. Noise echoes around the courtyard and me and my son were up by 3am from the seagulls. We moved the mattresses into the lounge the second night to get some sleep. The curtains are only just hanging on and don’t stop any light coming through because they are so thin. Getting into the property was a challenge the keypad only worked sometimes. Getting out was harder as there was no door handle which must be a serious breach of health and safety. In a fire I’m not sure I could have got out. Any elderly definitely would not be able to. Alexa is also fine for people who can use it. But elderly people may struggle and it’s the only way to turn on the heating. Ideally a control over the volume would also have been good. The children above us played music so loud we knew exactly what was being heard and every word. The location is its best feature.
The property was a good size and the location was good.

United KingdomThere are a number of things.. 1. The heating . It was an unusually cold April weekend. The heating said it was controlled by a preset thermostat but to make sure the heaters were turned on. All heaters were switched on but the house was cold especially the bedroom and bathroom and the actual heating never turned itself on the entire time . I am recovering from a heart attack last year and a further stent insertion in February and with the medication I am on needed to spend the weekend wrapped in the duvet just to keep warm. The fire in the living room eventually got the living area to an ok temperature, but we couldn't leave this on when going out so returned back to the cold. On the first night we ended up just going to bed to keep warm not what I would expect from paying 250 for the two nights 2. The access to the shower is ridiculous and could be classed as dangerous and a potential slip or trip hazard having just a small gap between the walls to squeeze through, anyone larger than myself could not of showered or easily slipped squeezing through. 3. The TV was last limited to only 5 channels (BBC and c4 the only ones to watch)as the others were displaying no signal. Not great for the rained in sunday in the cold room 4 no basic cleaning or drying for dishes, sponge cloth, towel We have visited Whitby frequently over the past 7 years and I have to say out of the 15 or more places we have stayed this on ranks bottom. Please contact me back as I am looking to complain and would like compensation for the poor weekend we spent there after looking forward to it after a hard few months Andy

United KingdomOver 70 stairs to get to the top so no good if you have mobility issues (this was not told to us before arrival) lift said permanently out of order but if you paid £20 you could get a key from reception? However there are further stairs to get to this particular apartment. We had no heating, no hot water, blinds did not shut, dirty towels, no bath plug, WiFi didn’t work, marked tables, hole in the wall, unable to shower/ wash hands/ dishes/ keep warm. Unhelpful staff when called out of hours, did put heating on but water issue was not fixed even though they said it would be. Dirty sofa and chairs, no heating in bedrooms - only living room when eventually put on manually by the staff over the phone (you don’t have control of the heating). Loose cables well electrical wires hanging out the walls, one of the main lights in the living room does not work and very strong cigarette smell although it’s a no smoking building. They are refusing to refund, despite all issues listed and advised we could not clean, shower, sleep. They don’t see this as a problem so booking.com are being great and helping. Do not waste your money on this stay in the two bedroomed apartment sea view Royal 9. K

United KingdomThe Fridge FROZE some of the drinks , Needed a hand rail in the shower , i have a bad ankle & my daughter has HEMIPLEGIA affecting one side of her body we both felt the lovely shower was too slippy . Although accomadation was clean the cleaner was not thorough because there was an empty loo roll on floor near toilet and the drains could've done with some bleach down them , oh the silver cap covering the shower plug hole was loose so had to be careful of not slipping on that when exiting the shower cubicle .
the Location was superb. on West Cliff near Whale bone Arch & SOPHIES bench xxx . The beach was 2 minute walk away . The fridge , kettle ,toaster . microwave were ideal to make a lazy breakfast , snack . Did not use the electric Hob .
