How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

The Abbey Inn is an old building, with narrow stairs and multiple fire doors. It was difficult to lug our bags up to our room, which seemed particularly small.
The staff were great, friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, they were not serving dinner the night we stayed there, but their selection of ales was excellent, and there were picnic tables outside by the river. Our room was on the top floor, overlooking the river. We could hear the river running all night....ah. Breakfast was excellent.

The bathroom is a confined space. The lighting in the room is dim. There is a shortage of sockets.
Lovely place. Super staff. Excellent breakfast. Sadly, like many surrounding areas, they do not have a daily chef. It is an amazing location on the river. The beds are really comfortable. The rooms are well sound-proofed and smell-proofed so you don't get kitchen smells and only hear someone leaving an adjacent room. Excellent bar staff - really kind and friendly and an excellent manager.

The bed could have been a little wider, but we knew from the site that they would be a minimum of 130 cm, so it was no surprise. It would have been nice to have the restaurant open in the evening, or at least clear information about when it would be open and when not. Fortunately I always carry nuts, fruit and crackers, sowe did not need to get into bed hungry... Also explaining the breakfast the first morning would have been helpful. We did not mannage to find bread, and the continental breakfast was also a slight mystery until we saw someone else getting cereals from the other side. All the rest went well, and our learning curve was fast =).
A very English breakfast list, which was delightful - we visited the UK to experience UK. The location was good, we wanted to be walking in Dartmoor and it was not too far by car to reach all the places we wanted to see and visit. Friendly staff, nice small place which I could visit again. A feeling of visiting your granny =).

Nothing other than chef was poorly so evening meal not available during course of stay which was disappointing

Lack of places to eat in the evenings.
The room overlooking the river was beautiful, was lovely to have the window open at night to listen to the river. Bed was comfy and the room was quiet. Friendly staff. Gorgeous terrace to sit on with the bonus of watching bats at sunset.

Heating could not be adjusted in the room. Room was a bit small, but we were aware it's an old building.
Staff were really helpful, decently priced meal's available. Great view out the window of our room.

Double staircase to get to 2nd floor room. Bathroom was very cramped, shower door was difficult to close and roof leaked when it rained.

Unfortunately the evening meals were rather sparse!
