Food at dinner was average. I had mac and cheese and it was just macaroni with grated cheese on top, not even melted.

Breakfast was nice and had a nice view. The location is great for an out of city weekend away.

Nothing apart from some minor problems making contact with the hotel immediately prior to our stay as we had a couple of questions.

A great location right on the canal. Ideal if cycling the canal route and very accommodating about storing bikes overnight. The staff were friendly and helpful and the food for both dinner and breakfast was very good. The weather was fine so it was great to enjoy a cold drink sitting outside on the terrace overlooking the marina.

It was hard to find a sensible socket for the kettle. The breakfast options were unusual - no porridge/juice/cereal/toast. However, the full Scottish was delicious.

Lovely location, and close to the John Muir Way. Friendly, helpful staff. There was some confusion about payment for breakfast but it was quickly sorted without any issues. Good shower.

People in next room had TV very loud and talked loudly until very late, could not sleep. TWO luggage racks please, two comfortable chairs and full height table. Also non slip mat for shower.

The wi-fi was unuseable. For me that's a deal breaker.

The staff were excellent - friendly and helpful. The meal in the restaurant was acceptable. The room was comfortable and it had a great radiator which made things really toasty. The location by the marina is nice though the building needs a new coat of paint and removing the rusty shipping container out back would improve the ambience.

The WiFi was a bit unreliable and you had to reconnect each day which took several minutes. Breakfast was not included but could be bought in the restaurant, it would have been good to have a simple option of just porridge/cereal and toast.

Only slight negative was the loose toilet set in the bedroom. Also the shower partition kept swinging out, might want to do some minor maintenance in the Montrose room. USB points would be a nice extra.

Really nice stay, staff were friendly and the food was was good, plenty of vegetarian options. The vegetarian breakfast was really nice, all good value for money.

Our downstairs room only had curtains so no privacy if these were open and very dark if not. Friday night guests were very noisy with lots of door banging as they returned to the residential area.
