How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

On one of the days, our bed was not made, and the room was not cleaned, although the tea and coffee area was cleaned and replenished. More shelf space in the bathroom for our toiletries would have been useful. The shelf and surface spaces occupied by plants would have been better left empty for our requirements.
The hosts were polite, friendly, and helpful. The breakfast was freshly made, with a reasonable range of food on offer, in a comfortable dining room. The bed was comfortable, and the bathroom was clean with modern fittings. Bottled water and fresh milk in a small bottle were put in our fridge each day. Location was a very short walk into the town centre and the bus and train stations.

Again, by the owners admission. the property requires updating, which they are doing, room by room as they can afford it. This, my friends, is a reason to stay here, not to avoid being here. Without patronage, they will not be able to replace and upgrade!
1st parking, got a space right outside the franklin, very pleased. Our car sat there for 3 days, unused, first time since we owned it, very pleased, parking is done by a daily permit, and is free, yay!!!!! Breakfast, excellent, had all the selections, during our 3 night stay, and can recommend ALL, of them. There is no rush to get you out, cleanliness and service, above expectation. Our room was the smallest, and by the owners admission, in need of refurbishment, however! clean, comfortable, everything worked as it should, with little to no, noise or disturbance from other guests in their rooms. This is 3 star rated guest house A Victorian property located close to the town centre But, it has the feel and charm of something much better, and positioned so that your not, distracted, at night, by the noise and glare of bright lights from the, pubs, bars, eateries, and nightlife, but close enough, to go and enjoy it all. The owners work very hard to ensure that you needs are met and have a great knowledge of the area. We have used New, bigger and well known places to stay at before, in other parts of the UK, and, not been treated as well, had worse rooms, with poor house keeping and little to no service, this was not the case at the Franklin! Will we stay here again? Yes.

The only negative is having to put a parking permit on your car every day.
The breakfast was very good you couldn't ask for the wrong thing ,the staff was very accommodating and the location to the centre of town is less than 5 minutes. Their is a wide choice of places to eat and drink in Harrogate so you can't go far wrong if you didn't want breakfast but i wouldn't recommend anywhere else for breakfast only The Franklin.

Nothing to dislike
Owners were great ! Very welcoming and friendly ! . 4 min walk to convention centre, high quality breakfast , general Parking on street, via free scratch card system per 24 hr. Bed comfortable, loads of hot water , we didn’t hear any noise, key supplied to enter front door at night, and for room door. A short walk to the town centre for any shopping, great location .

For me, l would prefer a harder mattress (nothing wrong with the mattress in my room, but on the softer side).
A very comfortable, high quality, clean room, in a convenient location for central Harrogate and the train station. Great breakfast (including a vegetarian option)!

The bad was a little small, a queen would have been batter
The breakfast was superb. It catered for my needs perfectly. The location was ideal if you wanted to spend time in Harrogate. Lots of choice of restaurants for evening meals.

No areas of concern
A very well run guest house with friendly hosts. Having a fridge in the room was great along with bottled water and fresh milk. The added bonus of coffee bags and snack flapjacks was much appreciated and enjoyed on our walk nearby.. A proper Yorkshire fry up for breakfast 😋 just what the doctor ordered!
