It was a bit inconvenient to have to take a toddler up 2 flights of stairs but understand that it would be quieter on the top floor.

Friendly staff, great location, big bedroom

We arrived at lunch time having checked it did food but on this occasion it was closed and we were stuck without transport and any where else to eat locally. The managers apologised and it was just unlucky for us.

Lovely well maintained and clean property. Staff were brilliant and accommodating. Great location and lovely room.

Perhaps have a music-free end of the bar so that people can choose how loud they want the music to be rather than always being close to the speakers.

It's an ideal location now. It's hard to overstate how quiet the village is now the A66 no longer runs through it. With so little traffic, the setting of the hotel is wonderful and no longer subject to be rattled by high speed lorries. This made the stay so much more pleasant and enjoyable. I appreciate the gesture of the management putting me on the top floor so that I wouldn't be immediately above a late night function. This made for a much quieter and undisturbed night. I also appreciated the accommodation for my bike, in a store room which ensured that it was dry and secure.

No heating on in the bar area or the bedroom. Tried turning the radiator up but must be switched off at source as it made no difference. Shower would not heat up, the water was cold, was over the bath so had bath instead. Plenty of hot water from bath tap. Bathroom was carpeted which is not very hygienic around the toilet .

Situation, just off the main road.

The double bed was extremely soft in the middle to the point that you just rolled into the middle.

Bar area was nice and the food was good. The staff were friendly and nothing was too much trouble.

Drinks were expensive for what they were . Over £20 for 2 glasses of wine and diet coke was more than we expected. No drinks menu so had no idea how much drinks were till we paid the bill.

Ideal location for us for what we needed. Friendly staff. Quiet

In spite of our booking confirming a twin bedded room for our two night stay, what we ended up with was a room with one good sized double bed and one small, very uncomfortable, single. If you are travelling as a 'non-couple', do check that the room is as advertised. And if it isn't, and you end up in the uncomfortable, small bed, ask for a discount!

Friendly staff A nice enough atmosphere of old world charm, i.e. beams, leather furniture, a lot of wood!

We were quite happy, but it is an old place, so narrow stairs and uneven floor may be charming to some and offputting to others.

A small hotel/pub in a quiet village off the A66, this made a good stop for us on the way back from Scotland, but could easily be a base for a longer stay (they seem to specialise in fishing packages). The staff were friendly. Dinner and breakfast were good, with a good range of choice (will cook a fish if you catch one). The room was cosy and comfortable.

Not being able to get onto the hotel when we arrived, had ring someone to let us in as it was between 4pm and 6pm. It seemed that no one was available between them hours. The hotel throughout seemed a little dated.

Near to the A66, very convenient for a stop over on a long journey home. The evening meal and breakfast were both excellent. Staff we very helpful and friendly.

In a perfect world there would be a locked shed or something for cyclists but it is not something we were too worried about as the back yard is locked up. If you require a specific room please be sure to write it in the extra section and not rely on your booking choice to be carried through. So for example if you want a twin room type that in the additional information.

Very nice quirky place. They were a bit concerned when our four guests were a little late that the kitchen could cope with the timing but they did and from the varied menu the choices were made were excellent and prepared and served marvellously. We could have not hoped for better. We were on a coast to coast cycling trip and though the staff were not particularly used to dealing with cyclists did what they could to help us. You will need to bring your own locks to secure the bikes and if that interests you it's probably because you are thinking of cycling up Great Dun Fell the highest road in Britain about five miles away. Which is exceptionally difficult. So they may get a few more visitors pedalling up to their front door to test themselves.
