My only evening meal there was disappointing in that the cooking didn’t match the ambition of the menu. I had hoggett which tasted good but found it difficult to cut through some gristle and get the meat off the bone, it really needed a steak knife. I mentioned it at the end to the waitress when it was too late: I really should’ve asked for one sooner. My friends who had the same dish said the same. My room was awkwardly shaped so I had to move the chair in front of the corner when opening the door but that was a very small thing and the setup was perfectly adequate for my 2 night stay. The tv didn’t work after the first evening but having mentioned it to the staff it seems there is a reception problem generally, particularly at the back of the hotel. On balance I’d rather be at the back with quiet and no tv than at the front with a working tv but early morning traffic which some of my friends had.

I had a single room at the back which was good because it was very quiet. The blind in the bathroom meant I could get the room dark and the bed was very comfortable so I had 2 very good nights’ sleep. Also unusually for a single room I had a full size bath as well as over bath shower which was fantastic to soak away my aches and pains after some very challenging walks. The breakfasts were top notch and the staff very friendly and helpful. Everything was spotless and it was a great location for our birdwatching trip.

Bathroom was a little dated but fully functional.

Nice large room with comfy bed. Good location in the centre of Middleton. Helpful staff. Really lovely food - breakfast and dinner were very good on both nights.

Nothing too bad .. Bath shower taps were a bit of an effort to turn . Room was ok ..very basic and a bit tired . One of our party had a stain on his pillow . Think it is undergoing some work so will likely be worth a visit later in the year .

Excellent breakfast , Nice location , Real Ale , .. Nice food for the evening meal ..lovely fish and chips . Off road parking , pleasant staff

We arrived to a freezing cold room which was in need of updating. The mattress was a bit uncomfortable. For the £100 per night price tag I would expect better standard of room. I can understand it's been really difficult for the hospitality industry and redecorating might be a bit difficult at the moment but if we'd have arrived to a warm room the poor condition of the decor wouldn't have bothered us. We couldn't fault the staff, cleanliness or the exceptional standard of the food.

The staff were very welcoming and the food was excellent. It was exceptionally clean and in a beautiful location.

The rooms are dated and basic. However, I suppose if they were fancier it would be a lot more expensive, so I'm happy with what we got! They were comfortable and clean which is the main thing.

It was great. Fairly basic hotel, but that was all we wanted for a quick stopover. Great bar and the food was really good. The breakfast was fantastic and used produce from the butcher across the road (apparently). It was very nice anyway. Staff were really nice and friendly. Good, secure car park behind for motorcycles

The WiFi in room 4 did not work at all. We had to sit in the hall to download our email and etc. thankfully there is a chair right outside the door!

A pleasant place to stay in Teesdale
    • Leisure trip
    • Family with young children
    • Single Room
    • Stayed 1 night

The seats in the bar and the restaurant are very uncomfortable, some were rather unstable and all in need of recovering. The lack of soft furnishings (curtains etc.) in either of these rooms made it unpleasant to spend time here for long periods, as the noise was deafening once the room filled with revellers/diners. Investment in some soft furnishings to absorb noise would significantly improve the quality of experience of dining here.

Nice atmosphere. Good quality food and beverage offer and friendly staff.

This has nothing to do with the hotel but we were disappointed that a favorite store in town is no longer there. It was one of the main reasons we returned several times to Middleton-in-Tees.

The location was fine as was the breakfast. We enjoyed walking around the town.
