How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

The food was excellent. We had dinner and breakfast, both of which were hearty and well cooked. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We were upgraded to an apartment which had everything you would need for a self catering stay. It was spotlessly clean and very well furnished and decorated.

No instruction on how to operate shower We mentioned to staff member that we were unable to shower as couldn't get it to work but she wasn't particularly interested. I suggested they provide written instruction as I wasn't going to come downstairs with a towel wrapped around me.

There wasn't really anything I didn't like, but things of note were the noise of the traffic below our room window and the room was quite small. Neither would put me off staying again.
The staff were fabulous. We were attended to, at some point by 5 different people and they were all great. The food in the restaurant was excellent. Plenty of choice and good quality. Breakfast was great and the porridge was delicious. Lots of tea, coffee and milk in the room. Our room, bedding, carpet etc were very clean. Great value for money.

I am familiar with this hotel having eaten there many times over years however this was our first stay because it is in a convenient location for a function we were attending.

Room far too small for 2 and assisted (smallish dog). I was glad it was 1 night stay as it was caustrophobic in room.Bathroom nice but tired in places. Filling out breakfast night before is a little dated as I don't always know what I want. Giving a time is ok as understanding they need to stagger the seating
Cost, homely feel and everything you need in room - water, coffee etc. Staff very nice to my dog.

Some lounge area would have been welcome, other than sitting in the bar area. Unfortunately for me, massive road works outside caused excess noise from queuing traffic and heavy lorries trundling past bedroom window 24/7. Certainly nothing to do with hotel I know.
The staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly. Food was excellent and well presented. Whole hotel was clean and well maintained. Bed very cosy and comfortable.

Hadn't realised the property is directly on the A915 and we had a room at the front so there was considerable traffic noise. The room wasn't very spacious and had no air con so it got rather stuffy. The bathroom was rather dated but clean and with generous towels!
Lovely, old building with a lot of character. Super friendly, helpful staff. Lovely dinner and breakfast. Impressive choice of whiskies! Very good value for money for the half board package. Easy to park. Would book again!

Room a bit small crossing road from car park to access hotel on a nasty bend very dangerous

Would appreciate a hook lock on the bathroom door. My dog kept opening the sliding door!
Very dog friendly, which was ideal since we were travelling with our very people friendly dog! Comfortable, though small room. Staff all so lovely and friendly! Booking again already for next trip!

The fact you can have great food and there is a bar all onsite is brilliant.

It was a bit cold inside the dining room for dinner
The staff were excellent, especially the young team in the evening in the dining room and the bar, nothing was a problem and always smiling, made the visit really enjoyable. The location was great with a fantastic view of the Forth. Food and drinks excellent. 20 min walk down to the beach at Lower Largo and Lundin Links
