How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Lack of a safe. Entertainment each evening. Indoor facilities not promoted enough

Noise in the night from a resident banging which went on for an hour and a half … No air con so not an option in warmer weather.

Room very comfortable although a long walk from reception. It is a big hotel. Dinner was good and onsite parking made it convenient.

Rooms were very warm but cooled down once we turned off the rads.
Staff were lovely and accommodated a last minute request for a twin room. Bar staff were nice, room was clean and comfortable.

Curtains in the room didn't fully close over so early light did come through. Not the worst thing to happen and couldn't say it ruined the experience.
Location, room and service was great. Room was very large and comfortable. Will certainly stay again whenever I visit.

Would be useful to have two bath towels per person but appreciate that the hotel is trying to conserve energy and water.
Excellent location near town and rail and bus station. Reception staff really helpful and pleasant. We really like staying at the Southern hotel. Enjoyed live music on Saturday evening.

Still using hand santisers on way in and on tables in restaurant just to remind us of covid no need for same stayed in other hotels since xmas and no reminder of covid in your face

The heating system was way too high. First night struggled to sleep. Second night used fan to cool the heat

We didn't enjoy the food on the Friday night. 3 scoops of ice cream with no sauce or 'coulis' as described on the menu but charged over €8...we were there on room only, we didn't upgrade for breakfast and we didn't eat there on the Saturday night. We have been let down with food in the hotel a couple of times over the years. We love it for its cosyness and location. Staff are very friendly. It's a hotel that could be so much more but their food let's them down. Our room was tiny.

1) I paid Booking.com by debit card and booking was confirmed. Shortly thereafter, Booking.Com emails me to say that hotel will accept only a credit card, otherwise confirmation may be withdrawn. I didn’t do anything as a result of that email and, upon arrival, the receptionist tells me that while the booking was indeed confirmed, the hotel can only be assured of payment when credit card is used. This needs to be sorted out by Booking.com. If it accepts a booking by debit card, so should the hotel. 2) it was a rainy night, and outside my room window, a heavy and persistent dripping sound disturbed my sleep. I don’t know what caused it: perhaps a broken drainpipe. I accept that I didn’t raise the issue with reception, but it’s something the hotel might look at. These two issues don’t detract from the overall quality of the service provided by the hotel.
It’s very centrally located, right beside the rail and bus stations. The staff are pleasant and the rooms are clean. The rate charged was reasonable and breakfast was fine.

Not offering an option to pay with debit card at the start felt a little discriminatory. Not everyone owns or wants to own a credit card.
Rooms were very comfortable with a nice design. Right beside forms of transport and the main part of town.
