Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaOn arrival we had trouble finding how to get to the hotel, we were sent videos of how to check in but I think we were missing the key one that advised where to go from the train station. For anyone wondering, when you leave the station go to the right (ie going away from the centre of Vernazza) and take the steps that go behind the police station. Yes, there are steps but from what I saw, every accommodation in the town would have steps in one way or another.
We enjoyed our morning coffees with Lorena, who was very helpful. The view from the room is wonderful and Vernazza is a beautiful town. Highly recommend staying in Vernazza versus Monterosso, which was also beautiful but much larger/spread out and busier.

CanadaWe had four large bags...we wish we could have had help right from the train platform to our room.Lots of stairs to get them down to where we had to meet Ivan( a great powerful man) who brought our bags up to our room.At the end of our stay we got him to bring our bags all the way up to the train platform.Pay him well...he's worth it!
Lorena is an asset for Caso Cato.Very friendly and helpful for anything you needed help with.Be it the train schedule, boat ride or anything else to do in the Cinque Terre.

We loved our stay at Casa Cato! The hotel is in a great location and has beautiful views. Lorena make a great cappuccino in the morning and has great tips and advice on what you can do each day. The hotel restaurant was so good ! Highly recommend making a reservation, fantastic seafood . We did the hike to the beach in Monterosso, which was a great trail with views. Overall, we loved our stay here :)

United StatesIt's a steep hike up to Casa Cato, but the view and Lorena's hospitality are well worth the climb.
The owner of Casa Cato, Lorena, is a fabulous, attentive host. She made us feel very much at home, served us delicious cappuccino and pastries in the morning and had several suggestions for us to visit during our stay. If you book directly through Casa Cato instead of Booking.com you can get a better deal and more of your money will go to your host.

United StatesWe came after the Paris Olympics for a rest...but the heat, tons of people..so what can one do. Just don't go in the summer as even the Italians go there for fun. This is perfect for a honeymoon or young couple to enjoy this lovely village..
Location was great for the town of Vernazza. Sara helped us with our only one medium bag. It's not a place if your over weight and not fit as the 78 steps are not easy for us 70+ travelers. Saying that we are fit but managed all the other 5 villages by boat. The room was very modern, clean and the killer view from our balcony was breathtaking. Great hosts that work hard to make it work. In the morning Lorena was a special person to guide us to several places of interest and a great asset to the Casa. Having the nice restaurant attached was convenient with Mom and daughter running it was so good. Mainly only seafood served but always fresh and healthy with local wines or drinks, but don't ask for a hamburger. Can't beat the view from this lovely hidden Casa, but many steps...but worth it.

AustraliaLorena the host greeted us every morning for a free coffee & cake at the restaurant. Additionally, she would offer suggestions for exploring the various towns each day in Cinque-Terre and always had discounts available for either trains or tourist attractions. Lorena made the Cinque-Terre experience all the more richer.

AustraliaNothing huge. There is a walk up a lot of stairs to the accommodation which was hard with our bags but manageable at all other times. Good to know for anyone less mobile. While being close to the station was great, you can hear the trains going by all day/night. It didn’t bother us much and they do provide earplugs, but another thing to know if you are sensitive to noise.
Beautiful view over Vernazza and a very convenient location given proximity to the station. Right on the walking path to Corniglia and 5 minutes to the water as well. Getting half price on the Cinque Terre card was amazing and meant we could see so much in our short stay. Great room, comfortable, clean and spacious and the amenities were great. Air conditioning and clothes lines were lifesavers. Nice seafood restaurant attached to the apartment - lovely view and food, but a bit on the pricier side. Lorena was an absolute gem - helping us plan our day each morning over cake and coffee with the best tips. She even filled up my water bottle with ice before I started the walk to Corniglia (strongly recommend!) and gave us coffees and pastries to go when we checked out on our last morning. Sara was also so helpful with directions and very responsive.

United KingdomThe view is amazing from the room Sara and Lorena are super helpful and sent a video over of how to find the accommodation which made it super straight forward. They also had a terrace where you would meet in the morning and they would help you plan your day around cinque terre with coffee and cake. Bedroom really comfy and really close to the train station which made it perfect for us to easy tavel through the different towns and go up and down the stairs with the case (they do also offer a service if you struggle with carrying the case up the stairs).

We loved our stay at Casa Catò - the views were just spectacular, the staff were super helpful. Every morning we were offered a free coffee and cake and Lorena would run through different options for our day. It was just perfect. The new restaurant that has opened is also delicious.

United StatesNot a complaint, but travelers should know that it takes a bit of a climb over steep stairs and rough paths get to this property. You may want to avail of the baggage handling service that they offer. There are no elevators or ramps to roll your bags on. Walk carefully as there are plenty of opportunities to trip and fall. The bedding felt dated - a bit stiff with coarse linens - compared to most of our recent hotel stays. You can hear the trains rolling by all the time - might be a concern for some folks, but I kinda liked it.
Amazing view of Vernazza - possibly the best such view from any accommodation in town. This property essentially overlooks the entire village, with a clear view all the way to Monterosso. The train station was quite literally downstairs, which was convenient since we had to catch an early train to catch our flight out of Pisa when we left. The room was compact but functional, with a surprising amount of useable storage. The air conditioning was a great relief during the hot days that we encountered. Bathroom was modern and complete. Our hosts were pleasant. Sara contacted us via WhatsApp before we arrived and provided video directions to the property. Lorena met us each morning over coffee and cake to answer questions about the area. She also sold us Cinque Terre day passes at a discount. Knowing that we were leaving very early on our final morning, she gave us some packaged pastries to take with us the day before - a thoughtful touch.

United StatesOur room had a beautiful view! It was clean, modern, and had space for our suitcases and travel gear. Each morning, we visited the restaurant for a cappuccino and a complimentary piece of cake. Lorena was a delightful host and helped us purchase the Cinque Terre passes. One night we ate at the restaurant, and it became one of our favorite meals of our entire 2 week honeymoon! Do try it. Even though this property is directly over the train station, it didn’t bother us at all. It’s rather convenient actually! Since Vernazza is small and easy to navigate, it’s a quick walk down to the shops and the water front.
