Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomAttention to detail for 5 star property/price of b&b could be improved. Eg kettle In every room. I have marked value for money based on dining experience already given to hotel. The Al a Carte looks stunning but equally has to offer customer experience to feel satisfied for the high ticket price/value and dishes available. I would recommend the cellar restaurant offers a greater selection available.
Loved property, stylish, chic, great courtyard breakfast. Enjoyed swimming pool garden, very quiet and tranquil to relax.

AustraliaThe bed was a little uncomfortable and the rooms were a little bit of a let down for the price.
Fantastic Location with beautiful surrounding views. Breakfast each morning was fantastic with a great variety of food to choose from. The staff upon check in were amazing and the lunch/dinner service was superb.

United KingdomCould have been cleaner and lacked a bit of soul. Maybe some background music at the outside sitting areas would be good. The drinks and food were unjustifiably expensive when compared to the area and other 5 star hotels.
Lovely location and building, staff were good.

United StatesIt was very dark. perhaps just my room. Access to restaurant needed steep steps which at night, wasn’t easy, particularly in the rain. Many facilities closed or underused. staff didn’t encourage you to eat or drink outside even in lovely evenings. Seemed understaffed. Took over an hour to get someone to “open up” by the pool. Staff weren’t as obliging as many, possibly language issues. most struggled with English. food in both restaurants “so so”. food expensive for Tuscany. found much better quality outside.
Looked stunning. lovely location. Quiet. Room was large and comfortable. sense of space .

GreeceChosen for its peculiar concept ... an old monastic complex transformed into an epic hotel! The rooms were wonderful - make sure to request a room within the central building! In the beginning we were given another room, but they changed us to the central building which was fantastic! The breakfast was amazing and the setting was a true Tuscan landscape!

AustraliaThe swimming pools were green /dirty and had slime growing in and on them. I slipped on the step of the lower pool it was so bad. It was so bad so we had to wonder if the natural unclean pond pool presentation was intentional. ? However they were not like this last time we stayed there. Poolside service was basic and not the standard expected at a 5 star property. More like a tuck shop with nothing in it and a young grumpy server that grunts at any request. You have to buy plastic bottles of water which do not even get served with a glass. The meal at their gourmet restaurant Contrada was very disappointing. Again in stark contrast to our great meal there in 2019. Apart from the lovely friendly lady that checked us in. All staff seemed grumpy, and disinterested in smiling. We had such high hopes for our stay after our previous great visit and left feeling very disappointed.
After a lovely stay here in 2019 we were looking forward to returning. Sadly this time the experience was not as good. We booked a Jnr suite this visit, but at twice the price of a room per night, we could not see the extra value here. The room did not look like those pictured in Bookings. The lady who checked us in was very friendly and delightful. We loved the big comfortable bed and beautiful linens and pillows. We appreciated the good sized Smart TV. We love the bathroom products. Breakfast was good. The surroundings and property in general is lovely.

United KingdomA hotel of this pricing should have more than one restaurant. The cellar restaurant which is apparently more relaxed than the Contrada restaurant. The hotel took the decision to not open the cellar restaurant this year and cited covid as a reason which does not make sense. Whilst Contrada is an excellent restaurant, the menu does not change and it is extremely expensive. Unless you have a car to be able to eat away from the hotel you are fixed to eat in Contrada every night as taxi’s are so expensive it is not cost effective to leave. The pool snack menu is limited in choice and very expensive for average food. The burger is €26 and to say it was average is an understatement. A dry bun, piece of lettuce, tomato and burger plus soggy chips is all you get. No effort or thought of how to add any flavour to the burger is fine if you are paying €10 but for €26 you should expect something special which it is far from. Children's ice cream by the pool which is 3 small scoops costs €16, which I thought was a joke when I was charged but they were serious. A great hotel but as most people are forced to not leave the property due to high taxi costs should mean more options for food and certainly more thought needs to go into their pricing model.
Hotel was clean and all staff were friendly and helpful.

IsraelThe expectations from that kind of hotel is to think about all details including the small details to make the vacation perfect, and this perfection was missing. For example, there was no carpet at the entrance to the room (Which was directly from outside) so when it was raining we had to gi with wet shoes into the room floor. Closet was very unuseful and no way we could put our staff, as there was not enough room, in addition, there were no baggage stands, so we needed to keep most of our staff in the suitcases which we put on the floor. Bath room door was a slide door and we could barely move it. I asked to fix it, but it didn't happen. This criticizing is mostly for the hotel management attention.
The hotel with no doubt is special and luxury. The staff service was superior. Breakfast was nice, nothing special to mention about.

GermanyThe value for money ratio is not working out. Everything comes at an extra charge. €40 for the indoor pool/ Spa per person per day. But especially breakfast is sadly not upto par. Fresh egg-dishes, pancakes, berries and plenty of other items come at an additional charge. The faculties and property is beautiful, yet the hotel isn’t lively during the day, particularly the beautiful courtyard is lacking a cafe/ bar / lounge or any kind of atmosphere that would want to make you spend time.
The property is located in a wonderful setting, beautifully restored building and rooms, with a picturesque yard, pool and spa. The staff is welcoming, kind, attentive and friendly.

United KingdomThe rooms was a very odd shape, and frankly, very small for what was not an inexpensive rate. Also, the staff were enormously obliging, but very green. I sent an email before we arrived to ask the hotel to help us establish where we could have a test over the weekend, as we needed to leave early Monday morning for our flight, and I followed up on check-in to ask for the person at the check-in desk to help, as I had not received a reply. I never received a reply to my email, and the person who checked us in never followed up. Disappointing.
The location, the retreat, the food was excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed the pool area, and the outdoor and indoor dining experience. The friendliness and attentiveness of the staff was very good.

FranceReality is not according to pictures on the hotel website especially for the rooms. Our « garden view » room had a view on the car parking. I asked to visit other rooms including the suites which clearly were not recently renovated. The pools are ok but are not fantastic. Prices for extras are incredibly high: 25€ for an apérol spritz! - same prices than in the most expensive palaces bars in New York or Paris but clearly not the same standing. Overall prices are similar to a 5 star hotel but it does not have the standing of a 5 star Disappointing. I would not recommend that hotel.

SwitzerlandThe fire alarm went off at 04.30 am and the staff could not stop it before 6am. While safety is really important there was nothing to report and the staff did not come to give the 20+ people in the courtyard any guidance or tell us we could go back to our rooms (not mentioning it also happened the day before in the afternoon). Some guests even tried to sleep by the pool to avoid the noise. The staff or manager did not apologize for the inconvenience or even offer any kind of compensation. We basically had to negotiate at the end of our stay to get a 20% discount as we barely slept that night. The restaurant was quite expensive and honestly tasteless for a 5 star « leading hotel of the world », we had the fish and lamb and would have probably cooked it better ourselves. The cocktails were over priced, we paid 20€ for a non alcoholic cocktail basically mind + water (oh and iced) 25€ for a mojito but that is more standard for this kind of place
The Monastery is a wonderful place, the SPA and swimming pools are really nice and I think this is what saves the place.
