Everything was perfect. Valentina is an amazing host and hooked us up with amazing restaurants during our three night stay. The property is amazing. Magical views of the heart of the Sassi. The entire experience at Torretta left us speechless. Do yourself a favor and book before this secret gem is discovered. I rarely write reviews but can’t help but share the magic of Torretta ai Sassi!

Beautiful property that lets you feel the history of this unique city. Our accommodation was in a cave room which was atmospheric but comfortable and well equipped. The views! And Valentina, the owner, went above and beyond in meeting us at 1 in the morning after the train we were supposed to take was canceled. We ended up on a 9 hour bus ride from Rome, but Valentina arranged a pick up and then settled us in. What a positive and friendly human being she is too!

Valentina is the best! She answered our inquiries very quickly, she met us outside to make sure we found the hotel and provided morning snacks. We had a beautiful stay in Matera.

The property was beautifully furnished and super clean in a great location with an absolutely amazing view of the beautiful town of Matera… The hostess Valentina was extremely helpful and communicative, and absolutely lovely to deal with every step of the way and Matera is a dream! The location is PERFECT!!!! It’s in the Sassi, historic part and super easy to walk everywhere but it’s located so that there are views of the Sassi. Free parking is very close by. Torretta is beautiful, small, charming, with incredible terraces and views. Valentina was a wonderful host. She recommended and made dinner reservations for us and was always available and full of love for her incredible home town of Matera. This really is THE place to stay in Matera! Enjoy!!!

Bed wasn’t comfortable.

Location is fantastic, can’t be a better view of the Sassi. Spotlessly clean. Host is very prompt at responding to any questions you may have. Host helped with reserving tables at recommended restaurants that were wonderful.

Valentina kept in touch ahead of time, and met us promptly upon our arrival. She is a very personable young lady who showed us around the property and assisted in reservations for a walking tour and for a restaurant. The view here from the terrace is perhaps one of the best in Matera.

Valentina is a sweetheart, gave us all the important information about Matera and booked three wonderful restaurants for us. We stayed at “The Arc” and if possible I highly recommend you choose this room. The decor is amazing!

Absolutely amazing location. Views were amazing- especially as the sun set. Lovely coffee in the morning and little pre mixed bottles of aperol spritz! 😉

Additionally, Valentina was a wonderful host, greeted me upon arrival, provided excellent recommendations for restaurants & tours; was very helpful in coordinating rides to and from airport & was easily access during my stay. I would definitely stay there again!

Valentina and Toretti ai Sassi were wonderful! She met us on our way from the nearby parking garage to show us the way, provided a map and showed us where many attractions were. Valentina even made reservations for us at her recommended restaurants. The location is amazing; the photos don't covey that you are right on the edge of the gorge, looking into the old city, the Duomo on the hill, and the river below. There is a beautiful terrace that we unfortunately couldn't enjoy as the weather was drizzly and/ or foggy while we were there. Beautiful landscaping all around. The room is decent sized by Italian standards, was outfitted with 2 luggage racks (very rare!), coffee & tea making, a mini fridge and another nice touch - one socket that did not turn off when the key was removed. So convenient for charging our electronics. And screens on two windows for cross-ventilation! The whole room seemed recently constructed or re-modeled with a lot of care. Nice bath and shower and a very quiet spot as it is on a pedestrian lane. No breakfast, but we made do with purchases from the market in town. Matera is a gem of a town to visit and you couldn't do better than to stay at Toretti ai Sassi.

- The shower was quite small. - I had read rave reviews on tripadvisor about their breakfast but they discontinued it with Covid and aren't starting it again...that was clear other places but I was a bit disappointed. They did have coffee, orange juice and packaged food in the room though. - Lugging our bags up and down the stone stairs and walkways was difficult.

+ Valentina was a wonderful host...answered all of our questions and was very, very helpful. + The location was terrific, with great views of the sassi and all sights easy to walk to. + It was quiet and private yet close to the action. + The cave room felt authentic and cozy. We loved it.

I absolutely loved staying here. Valetina (the host) took great care of me and helped me since the beginning. The rooms were fantastic with an excellent view of the sassi. There was a small breakfast and some snacks for free. The bathroom had all the amenities and the rooms were very clean. Valentina even helped make reservations for dinner at fantastic places and guided me on what to see and how to get around. I felt like I was at home. My stay was very comfortable and relaxed. I was travelling solo so safety is also important for me and that was present as well. The rooms was inside the cave and was very beautiful

Valentina is a wonderfully kind and attentive host and she does everything to make sure you will enjoy your experience. This included contacting me before arrival to confirm everything (she had also connected me with an excellent driver for the journey from Bari). The Sassi room was comfortable and well equipped with everything I needed. The terrace, which was outside my room and the adjacent one, was large and equipped with table/chairs. It had incredible views across the ravine and to Matera.. When I arrived, at night, I was blown away by the view (and the friendly cat who welcomed me). The location was perfect - only about a 20 min walk to the centre of Matera but far enough away to be quiet.

The view is just amazing. I think probably the best view you can have, as it is at the end of the old city so when you're on the terrace you see the ENTIRE city, at night it's just magical. Would 100 percent choose this place again.
