Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThey changed the futons to the foam egg cartoon from a traditional futon and no extra ones for extra cushion. We like the traditional one doubled up. But will still stay there if we ever make it back there.
We stay here every time we visit the monkeys. We like the location , the onsens , the rooms , the staff

United StatesThe water in the bathhouse in the ryokan could have been a bit cleaner, but overall it was a very good experience nonetheless.
The room was more spacious than we thought it would be. The futons were very comfortable and the thick blankets kept us very warm at night. The location was very ideal- there were many onsens just in the area and many places to eat at.

AustraliaPrefer a normal shower instead of a shower bath, difficult for an older person to get in and out of.
The room was lovely, the futons were really comfy and I just loved the onsen, it was beautiful!! The Japanese lady at the service desk went above and beyond to accommodate us, she was fantastic!!

JapanThe onsen facilities were nice, but only one of the baths was very hot. Luckily, it was the biggest of the baths so it was spacious and not crowded. The bathroom could have been more thoroughly cleaned as there was some hair in the drain, but otherwise it was fine.
It's a bit of an older building, but the room was large. The staff was great! They were very welcoming and helpful, and the onsen was enjoyable. We drove to the hotel, and there was free parking which was nice. Overall this was an enjoyable experience.

IsraelDuring 5 night of our stay the room had not been cleaned even one time, facilities like tea had not been filled. There were 10 one-time-use hair brushes but no toothbrush. There were not toilet cleaners in the rooms toilet, so I had to ask the staff they bring it to me.
Located very close to Yudanaka Station, responsive staff, well heated room, indoor Onsen and sauna included. Inside the hotel there is an Izakaya restaurant on 1st floor

United KingdomThe corridor to our room smelled terrible. The hotel is aware of the problem, since they have deployed an air freshener in the hallway, which does no good at all. The onsen did not seem particularly clean to me, especially when compared to other facilities we have stayed in recently at the same price point. Some of the 4 separate baths in the on-site public onsen had a lot of particulate matter floating around in them; this was off-putting. While the hotel provides body wash, shampoo and conditioner in the onsen, they do not provide any other amenities such as body lotion, facial wash or lotions, onsen towels, etc. The hotel lounge was closed off and not available for use during the day. Breakfast was included in our room rate; ‘breakfast’ consisted of 3 small rolls and a hot or cold drink. 3 small rolls and a cup of coffee do not constitute breakfast in Japan, and the food should not be advertised as breakfast. Slippers were not available during the day, only after check-in time at 3p.m. Otherwise, you had to walk around in your socks or bare feet. I would not recommend this hotel. Spend a little more and have a more comfortable stay with a proper breakfast.
I chose this hotel for its proximity to rail and bus transport, and to the Snow Monkey park. We paid for a quadruple room, so it was a good size. The hotel is a 5 minute walk from the train and bus station. Hot water and wifi were good.
