“Emanuelle and Gilles are fantastic hosts who made us feel very comfortable. It was nice to talk to them during meals. They also care for small details that made us feel home, e.g. for breakfast, they put fresh flowers on the plates every morning. There is enough room and the boat was clean.”

“The location, the bungalows, the meals”

  • Island Home Review score: 10

“Island home is a fantastic quirky and well thought out home. It's the perfect place to settle for a few days and get equainted with Polynesian life! There is a Canoe to take out to a motu. Fabrice let us through the place he is staying to go snorkelling, just across the road from Island Home. Fabrice was a responsive, helpful and friendly host who ensured we had a great time. The home has all the facilities to cook but also bikes to use to get to local restaurant/snacks. Fish & Blue is a lovely restaurant in walking distance. Island Home is the perfect place to disconnect, relax and enjoy.”

  • Raiatea sur Mer Review score: 8

“Raiatea is a remote island with little infrastructure. It is breathtakingly beautiful. But it is not set up for tourists, which is fine, but visitors must be prepared to make their own food and carry water, driving at least 1 hour to find a restaurant or supermarket . Raiatea sur mer is a freestanding room /bathroom within a lovely home, owned by a friendly couple who want to visit with you and talk, in French. They will also cook you dinner if you arrange it with them . The dinner is lavishly done , pricey, but definitely nice. The bedroom, thankfully, has a mini split air conditioner, as it was very very hot. They lent us a kayak to tool around in inside the reef. We had a lovely time. There is a UNESCO world heritage site, a Marae, within 2 miles of our homestay.”

  • Raiatea Lodge Hotel Review score: 10

“There really aren’t enough superlatives to describe our stay at Hotel Raiatea Lodge. Everyone on staff is delightful and goes out of their way to accommodate any requests. We stayed in room #8 in the main lodge. The room was spacious with a very comfortable bed and an incredible view from our balcony. The sunsets are spectacular every day. The food is outstanding and beautifully presented. We are vegetarian which the chef accommodated with delicious dishes every evening. The desserts are fantastic and the breakfast buffet is plentiful with freshly baked goods, delicious home made yogurts, cheeses, cold buts, fruit etc. The hotel offers a number of fabulous excursions through local operators which we took advantage of. They include being picked up and dropped off at the hotel which makes it all very convenient. The operators are paid directly in cash and there are several ATM’s in town so that wasn’t a problem. There is also great snorkeling right in front of the hotel. Kayaks are available to go to the Motu (15-20min.) which was a lot of fun. Car rental is also available right on site and charged directly to your room. Cars have a manual transmission and all in great shape. We rented one to drive around the island which was fun. Overall our stay at Hotel Raiatea Lodge exceeded our expectations and we will definitely return.”

“Breakfast and dinners were amazing. Staff were very friendly. Lovely location.”

  • Raiatea sur Mer Review score: 10

“I wished we could have stayed for a month instead of 3 days! We loved our stay. The hosts were kind, helpful and welcoming and we learned a lot about Polynesia. The bungalow is very spacious, including the bathroom, and there is a walk-in closet. The bed was very comfortable, and the communal kitchen was such a delight, they have great appliances. A lot of thought has gone into building this place, for example having a door that goes directly into the bathroom so that you don’t fill the main room with sand. The property is kayaks and we kayaked to the most pristine motu, where we saw baby sharks!! Incredible place.”
