Position and view on the harbour of Labuan Bajo

I cannot recommend this place enough! I stayed here alone for two nights, and I really wish I could have stayed longer – I will definitely be back. Akbar, his family, and friends are absolutely amazing and made my stay on Komodo Island truly unforgettable. He also helped me with my travel from Labuan Bajo to Komodo Island and back, and met me at the port when I arrived. The room and bathroom were very clean and comfortable, and also has a private terrace with an amazing view where I could enjoy my morning coffee. You get everything you need, and Akbar and his family are always there to help if there is anything at all. His wife cooked incredible food for every meal and kindly adapted everything to be vegan for me. On my last evening, they even arranged a vegan BBQ with grilled cassava, banana, and corn – I loved it. The village itself is so beautiful, and Akbar made sure I got to see the best parts of it, as well as meet many people and learn about the local village culture. I truly felt like part of the family, and I am so grateful for this experience. In addition to trekking to see the Komodo dragons, Akbar can also help arrange boat trips to other islands, such as Pink Beach and Padar – whatever you wish! Best expérience, friendly host and his family)

If you are looking for a truly authentic and immersive experience, this is it. The accomodations are clean and comfortable and the large balcony offers a stunning, serene view of the Harbour and islands of Komodo National Park. Bajo Komodo Homestay is the perfect location from which to explore Komodo National Park and all its wonders and Jhojo is the perfect host to explore it with. With Jhojo as our guide, we saw many Komodo dragons, went to several different snorkeling locations - the best was Red Beach where we saw turtles up close, many, many colorful fish and an incredible variety of coral. It was the best snorkeling we have experienced. Jhojo took us to Padar Island where we hiked to the lookout point which was fantastic. Jhojo was patient and did not rush us on this challenging hike. From the outset, Jhojo and his family made this experience as unique and awe-inspiring as possible. From the moment we boarded our boat to the day of our return to Labuan Bajo, our trip never disappointed thanks to Jhojo. Thanks Jhojo.

Jeki is an excellent host and a very good guide. His English is great and he really looks after you. As a solo female traveller I felt completely safe and genuinely welcomed into the village. The house overlooks the ocean, has a private bathroom and a fan, and the food is delicious. He shares meals with you each night which makes it feel like a really authentic village experience. Highly recommend if you can organise a tour company to take you there. If you want to fully immerse yourself in the Komodo Islands and love nature and the dragons, this is absolutely the way to do it. Exceptional. Staying in Komodo village was such an awesome thing to do. I took a fast boat out to Komodo Island, stopping at all the usual tourist spots, but arranged for the boat to leave me at the national park. Jeki, my homestay host and ranger, met me there and took me back to Komodo village. The next day I had a private tour of the park and visited the Komodo dragons in the village. The following day I headed back into the park and was picked up by Best Komodo Tours Indonesia to finish a one-day tour, including swimming with manta rays and snorkelling.

Great host, guide and a very intelligent and attentive person. Honest, knowledgeable and trustworthy. The best part of the home stay is that you can tailor your stay according to your needs and liking. Khulna is always there to help you and meet your needs. He also called me weeks before our arrival and sent all the pricing sharing his advice and suggestions. We saw many Komodo Dragons, fish, mantas and had great times every day. It was very hard to leave.We enjoyed the stay very much and will be back very soon!!!

We are a French couple and tried this genuine experience for 3 nights on beg December 2023. We are very happy and recommend it, but we believe it must be clear what to and not to expect. We hope the details below will help other travelers. First challenge is to contact Jahiding, the lovely host who is also a komodo ranger. You will get his WhatsApp once you book the stay. Once on the Island, Jahiding will take care of you from A to Z, he stayed with us as the guide during the tours we planed with him and the captain. It's a private small boat (meaning not big) and you can choose where to go and how long you stay at each spot. We believe It was a privilege compared to other tours with dozens of people and timed visits. -Transportation The main challenge is to get to komodo Island with the "phantom" public boat that nobody knows about. It does exist and is actually located in a separate Harbour. Here is the GPS location : -8.484518,119.876788 The name is "TPI Kampung Ujung port". There is a smelly fish market to go through, not hard to miss. Price is 100k IDR if captain does not try to charge the tourist fee. You have to ask people around the boat if it is the correct one as there is no ticket to buy in advance nor any special desk. Just hope on the boat once you are sure it is the right one and pay when you arrive. The boat is mid size and around 20-30 people make the trip. It is not a ferry, it is much smaller, around 20 meters long and 4 meters wide and only one deck with shade. Transport takes 4h and is noisy (depends on the boat you have), travelers are komodo residents which are all very kind. Be prepared for basic confort, no seat no bench, just boat wood. No toilet break neither. The boat schedule as Jahiding told us is as such, and you will have to plan your stay based on this. From Labuan to Komodo Monday, Wednesday, Friday. Between 9am and 11am. From Komodo to Labuan Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday between 9am and 10am.

Ok, so this place is just fabulous. First of all it's huge...the house is extremely well equipped, modern and very welcoming. It could easily fit 6 guests. Second of all, the yard...gigantic, with a superb pool and surrounded by nature (i think we even saw some flying foxes in the night, but up in the trees). We had an amazing time there...the only regret is that we didn't stay longer.

Our family of 5 had a wonderful stay. The family who hosted us was very kind and helped arrange a local boat to take us to different beaches and snorkeling spots that were absolutely gorgeous (like manta point and pink beach). The host is a ranger at Komodo National Park and gave us a wonderful tour. It was very special to stay in the Muslim village on the sea and have a glimpse of life there. Everyone was very friendly and warm.
