This place truly exceeded my expectations! Douglas and Daria are incredibly warm and welcoming hosts, both with a very calm and soothing energy. Douglas helped organize trips and shuttles, making everything easy and stress-free. Daria is always happy to assist and loves sharing her knowledge about the local fauna and flora. They have a wonderful team: four sisters who prepare incredibly flavorful, fresh dishes every day, and Victoria, whose vibrant personality makes guests feel completely at home (she also makes amazing margaritas!). Every day at 4PM, Douglas takes Oso, their lovely dog, on his daily ‘walk’ on the barking boat. Don’t miss this because it’s unique and so much fun! They also own a gentle black cat named Pedro. The other guests were great company as well. We even went on a day trip together, and in the evenings we shared dinners followed by long after-dinner conversations and games. I stayed in the little hut above the dock. It can get a bit humid and there are some bugs, but that’s part of the ‘camping’ vibe, or rather glamping. The view from the hut is amazing! There are also plenty of cozy communal spaces to relax. Overall, it felt like a warm and familiar experience. It was a perfect and relaxing way to end my holidays in Guatemala, and exactly the reason why I chose to book this place.

What should I say, this is probably one of the best accommodations we have ever been during our travels. Not regarding the rooms, those are very basic (but clean) and have a roof which is open on the side so all kind of insects might get into your room (we only had one moth one night visiting us but the mosquito nets help to keep them generally out of your bed). But what is outstanding is the hospitality and the kindness of the owner Martha and her family. You really feel part of the family and everybody is supportive here. Yes, you need a Kayak or a Lancha to get somewhere, but this is no big deal and there is enought to do around the hostel using those for more than 2 full days (e.g. Tiger Cave and Livingston). But you can also just relax since the view is stunning (especially the sunset). Additionally they offer food and drinks (and free water) for a very reasonable price and if you require anything they will try to help.

In the Rio Dulce river near a 16th century castle the The Golden Resort - Tortugal River Lodge & Marina peninsula is bathed by almost constant on shore breezes providing a cool and refreshing place.

Lovely staff, the food they prepare is really delicious and they're happy to help you out with whatever you might need. Rooms and general facilities are lovely, nested into the lush jungle, hot shower has really good water pressure - stay if you can!

Victor, our host, was lovely. He cooked great food and was great company, providing wonderful tours in his boat. Nothing was too much trouble. Casa Colibri is a little oasis beside the river. We relaxed on the roff terrace watching colourful birds close up and enjoyed chilling in the covered lounge dining area with a lovely sandy floor. Our four nights were just what we needed!

Buena Vista Bay Resort has an outdoor swimming pool, garden, a terrace and bar in Lívingston. The property is non-smoking and is set a few steps from Ribera Rio Dulce Beach.

Our stay at Buena Vista Bay Resort was nothing short of extraordinary — honestly, a 15 out of 10 experience. The place itself is absolutely idyllic, the kind of peaceful, beautiful setting you almost don’t want to tell others about so it stays a hidden gem. Every detail of the resort reflects care, taste, and a genuine love for hospitality. What truly made our stay unforgettable, though, were the hosts, Dino and Maja. They are simply wonderful people — warm, attentive, and incredibly genuine. From the moment we arrived, we felt not like guests, but like friends. And a special mention has to go to Maja’s cooking — absolutely outstanding. Every meal was a highlight and added so much to the overall experience. We left with full hearts and can’t recommend this place highly enough. We’re sure we’ll come back — or meet somewhere else in the world :)

We loved our stay in Livingston and in the Winnard Hotel, which was clean, quiet, spacious and friendly. The breakfast was very good too! We didn't have dinner here, but we did have it at the 'Sister hotel' the Casa Nostra. Here you can have dinner by the waters edge. We stayed here for one night on our journey from Rio Dulce in Guatemala to Punta Gorda in Belize. Stuart, who runs the Casa Nostra and Winnard Hotels, was incredibly helpful in helping us navigate the boat journey to PG and the vagueries of immigration on the Livingston side. We booked our boat tickets through the hotel, and he was on-hand to help us throughout ( and many others from what we saw). I would recommend the Hotel ( just 2 mins from the Pier) as a great stopover. In fact, I wish we'd had a day or 2 to explore more of the area.
