Hosts were very accommodating despite speaking little English and my limited Japanese. Translation app overcame that barrier. A stocked fridge and comprehensive facilities made my stay very enjoyable. I was able to cook a simple meal, and do some laundry without having to leave the guesthouse in the heavy snow! The cherry on top was the owner driving me to the dinosaur museum in the morning. Very unexpected but much appreciated.

Incredible. The staff is simply wonderful, helpful, knowledgable and really so zen. The hotel is beautiful, super clean, the food is phenomenal and the facilities are 10/10 too: the shared onsen bath and the meditation room were a special addition to an already amazing stay. You can also arrange directly through the reception activities like sutra copying, zazen meditation at the temple as well as a morning visit to the ceremony of the temple. A unique experience overall, would absolutely visit again.
