I had an amazing stay at Sunrise Cabanas in Arugam Bay! The location is perfect — just a short walk from the beach, and the vibes are unbeatable. Whether you're travelling with friends or family, this place offers something for everyone. The cabanas are clean, cozy, and beautifully designed with a chilled-out tropical feel. The on-site restaurant was a real highlight — delicious food with lots of variety, fresh ingredients, and great value for money. Definitely recommend the seafood! Evenings here are never dull — there’s always something going on! From live music to fun parties, there’s great energy without it being too overwhelming. It’s the kind of place where you can relax by day and enjoy some good entertainment by night. The staff were super friendly and made us feel at home from the moment we arrived. We’re already planning our next trip back! Highly recommend to anyone looking for a mix of relaxation, good food, and fun in Arugam Bay!

We stayed at The Waves Rooms & Hostel for 6 days and truly enjoyed our time there. I asked the staff to help me arrange something romantic and special to surprise my partner, and they did an amazing job with the room setup—it was such a thoughtful touch. What stood out the most was how clean, comfortable, and quiet the place is, while still being right in the center of Arugam Bay. It made everything super convenient, with plenty of restaurants and shops just a short walk away. They also have a shared kitchen that’s very clean and well-organized, plus a nice chill-out area upstairs where you can relax. For surfers, the main point is within walking distance. If you’re looking for something more relaxed and beginner-friendly, I’d recommend heading to Peanut Farm surf spot. Overall, it’s definitely great value for money, and I highly recommend staying here when visiting Arugam Bay!

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. Everything was very clean,with nice details, the room was very nice and the attention from the owner was incredibly warm it truly felt like being part of a family. What made this place even more special is that the owner helped me rescue four puppy dogs and gave me full support during the process. He genuinely cares about the animals in the area and is always willing to help those in need. I highly recommend this place, not only for the comfort and cleanliness, but also because the owner is a truly kind person with a big heart for animals.

We stayed three wonderful nights in Tropicana Home Stay. We have traveled around Sri Lanka and stayed in many hotels and guesthouses. This is one of the nicest and cleanest rooms we have had. Also with excellent Internet. It is a small family owned guesthouse with a small supermarket right next doors. The family feeling makes it very cost and accomodating. The owner cocked us a barbecue on our last evening. We can highly recommend this home stay.

This was by far the best stay we had in Sri Lanka! First of all, the location is beautiful. Away from all the crowds, this is a very unique and bit undiscovered part of Sri Lanka. But despite the quiet location, the area offers many things to do and the accessibility is very good. We traveled mainly by public transport and from Kandy there’re every hour direct buses (also with A/C) heading to Ampara. From Ampara it is easy to get a tuk tuk to the lodge. But also from the lodge they will help you with arranging transport where necessary (car/taxi/tuk tuk, etc.) and do everything they can to make sure you can travel save. And this is also what makes the Gal Oya Lake Club so special, they are super helpful. Nothing is too much for them and everything is negotiable. For example, when we were there, we’d like to climb the Monkey Mountain with a Vedda. Although this is not part of the “standard” excursions they offer, Dinesh did everything to make this possible for us. But also the area around the lodge is ideal for hiking and in the National park nearby you can make beautiful safaris! And even if you'd rather not go on excursions, there’re plenty things to do at the lodge. The massages they offer are definitely a must do. The massages you get there are absolutely not expensive and truly fantastic! In short, we stayed 3 nights in a glamping tent, but could easily have stayed longer. The staff does everything to make your stay fantastic and it’s a beautiful place to be!
