- sehr viel zum angucken in der Innenstadt (a lot of sightseeing places inside the city) - KiKa Figuren suchen macht Spaß (it is fun to search the movie figures all over the city) - sehr viel Kultur und Restaurants (a lot of culture like theaters and restaurants)
Erfurt is a wonderful place for people who like historical cities. The old town is mostly for pedestrians. For longer distances you might use the tram. Many nice restaurants , ice parlors,( a must is the one on Krämer bridge), little shops. If you like glass items, there is a nice shop in Marktgasse. The owner is a glassblower and there is a chance to watch him producing glass items. The market in front of the Dom is always worth to be visited. In case you need a bouquet of flowers: on Saturday you get the most beautiful one on the Dom market - facing the Dom on the far left hand side. Don’t miss the „Erfurter Blau“ on the Krämer bridge. You can buy or order from little bags up to blouses or table cloths - all individually made.It is a very rare specialty which made Erfurt rich many centuries ago. If you like cosy little Cafés, try the „Kleiner Elefant“ in Fischersand 1 - delicious home made cakes. You can also make a trip to the Buga ( tram), a huge park- flower exhibition. If this is not enough, other historical cities like Weimar or Arnstadt you can reach in less than half an hour by train.
Lovely Old Town with trams throughout. Beautiful cathedral and Market place .. cathedral steps festival about to start on 15 July.. nabucco by verdi.. Could hear the rehearsals.. wish we could stay for it . Lovely little square where we ate Wernige markt and the restaurant was called wernige nr 13.. very delicious thuringian food Atmosphere great and an accordion player .
Charming ancient city. The most exciting things we visited were the old town, Erfurter Dom, the Jewish museum, and the Wirtshaus Christoffel restaurant. Everyone should try very special and tasty Thueringer bratwurst and local bier. The Krämerbrücke part is quite similar to the Petite France district in Strasbourg.
The old town of Erfurt is the most extensive I have seen in a German city. It oozes character, and yet is the functioning centre of the modern city. The cathedral and citadel are easy to reach along the narrow old streets, as are the museums of art. A fascinating museum of folk art is situated on the edge of the city centre. There are numerous inns, cafes and restaurants. I was happy to walk, but for those who prefer to ride, there is a network of trams. The train station is located a short distance from the city centre. For me, Erfurt was a great discovery.
Erfut is really beutifull city with a charm. The old city is really nice, you can spend a day just walking trough the old city with observing old houses and cultural monuments. We were in Erfurt from 24th - 26 th December and unfortunatly would not advise to visit the city at this time because apart from sightseing there is nothing else to do, everything is closed and it was even very hard to find a grocery store. Luckily there is a lot of nature arround where we could spend our day.
