It’s a tiny town with a great community and lovely people...
It’s a tiny town with a great community and lovely people who welcomed us with open arms on Halloween. Trick or treating was wonderful !
It’s very central to the islands with good access to supermarkets, and restaurants.
There are great beaches close by, and wonderful wildlife.

Gramisdale is a good base to explore the Hebrides.
Gramisdale is a good base to explore the Hebrides. A hire car is a must if you have flown in. Drive around the islands and admire the views.
I also recommend the gin distillery nearby, a jewellery shop, and an unusual monument to a legendary bear

Lovely accommodation and host.
Lovely accommodation and host. We really liked the communal kitchen which gave you lots of flexibility on when you wanted to eat. It was also nice to meet other guests. Beds were comfortable with nice bed linen and we both had a good nights sleep. We also liked that it was centrally located and easy to get to the other islands. I would definitely recommend to others.

Grimsay has a nice circuit round and there is Namara fish...
Grimsay has a nice circuit round and there is Namara fish company which has a shop where you can buy fresh fish, also has a cafe.
RSPB walk at Balranald on North Uist is excellent.
Pobhull Fhinn and Barpa Langass are worth a look, there is a short walk round both of them.
Hebridean smokehouse also has excellent fish.

For us it was the spectacular views, peace and quiet away...
For us it was the spectacular views, peace and quiet away from everybody. It’s so easy to get around the islands but you have to travel some miles to get to places to eat, which is not a problem in such a beautiful place.

House very run down & overpriced.
House very run down & overpriced. Hot water temperamental, broken shower & toilet seat downstairs so couldn’t use for second week (not ideal when I’m waiting for a hip replacement). Gas leak in kitchen, unstable table & chairs, spices in rack over 10yrs out of date. Back step to property broken. Guttering down & lying in garden. Every room needs fresh decor & fresh bed linen. No drawers in twin room & broken drawers in double room. House needs a good clean! Really disappointed as we love visiting the Western Isles & had been looking forward to this trip.

The Uist Islands were lovely.
The Uist Islands were lovely. We were very fortunate to catch the North Uist Highland Games in mid-July. This is an area for gentle walks and birding. Dining options are good but limited. Definitely a place to unwind.

Marion was an excellent host. So accommodating and friendly.
Marion was an excellent host. So accommodating and friendly. She gave us an upgrade which was unexpected and we had our own entrance which we appreciated. The room was beautifully furnished and we felt comfortable and cosy. We particularly enjoyed the continental breakfast in our room and Marion’s home baked bread! The views outside were stunning. We were able to walk out from our room and walk for a couple of miles along the beautiful white sandy beach which was just spectacular.

Balivanich is an ideal location for a stay over while exploring North Uist, South Uist & Benbecula. Everything you need locally.
Easy access to explore the Uist islands.
The roads are narrow, but easy to drive, the causeways linking the islands are so scenic and lovely to drive.
Access to the Isle of Harris via the Berneray to Leverburgh ferry.
Easy access to Lochmaddy ferry.
Lots of scenic locations for budding photographer’s & bloggers.
The Gin distillery, pony trekking, smokehouse & bakeries.
Don’t miss the Scandinavian bakery.
