I absolutely loved my stay at this guest house—it was such a special and memorable experience! The place itself is full of character and located very close to an amazing beach. I also explored the beautiful, peaceful island by bike, which made the stay even more enjoyable. Zuttomiso is spotless and incredibly welcoming, with a warm atmosphere that makes you feel at home straight away. What really made it stand out, though, were the people. The hosts are genuinely kind, friendly, and passionate about travel, and it shows in everything they do. Sharing meals together was a highlight—such a lovely way to connect, swap stories, and learn about different cultures in a relaxed and friendly setting. One evening, I even introduced myself in Japanese—the hosts helped me prepare, which made it a fun and memorable experience. It felt less like staying in a guest house and more like being part of a small, international family. I left with great memories and would highly recommend it!

The owner runs the place alone, but he still went all the way to the airport to pick me up. Despite my very limited Japanese ability, we were able to communicate quite well.. But the most important thing was he helped me rent a small scooter that I surely would not be able to rent without a local person vouching for me. This made my Amami trip really unforgettable and I'm forever grateful for the help I have received here! Also the evening of tasting local shōchū and stargazing was amazing. I will be back!

The room was very different to what I’m used to in western hotels, but it was very comfortable and I slept well on the futon. Everything was clean and attractive. The hosts are a lovely family. A short anecdote from my brief stay: As it was my first time in Japan, I asked for food recommendations and they told me about a nearby restaurant. I didn’t have enough cash but I elected to withdraw money from across the street. So I drove to the restaurant, made sure it was open and there was room for me and to my surprise I found out that I had a reservation! Kindly booked by my hosts. I then went to withdraw some cash but the ATM couldn’t recognise my card, so I went back to the restaurant with the plan to just eat lightly with the limited cash I had. Then, out of nowhere, my hosts appeared at the restaurant, somehow with the knowledge that I was struggling, and offered to cover the whole dinner for me! They are kind hearted people that will do their best to make sure you enjoy your stay. I’d highly recommend this guesthouse, more so than any other I’ve visited before.

This was the best place we have ever stayed. It was an authentic island homestay that made us feel like we belonged from the moment we got there. Facilities are great, location is good but the best part of this listing is the people. Dinners shared with the family will be the highlight of our time in Japan. Very sad to leave

Marvelous sea view and great service. On Amami this hotel is a gem and you not can do something wrong to stay here. As vegetarian the stuff every day make me a special arrangement for breakfast. Also what less guests was use is the super nice beach just few steps down of the room
