Overlooking the Danube River, this 4-star hotel occupies a 17th-century monastery in the historic Old Town of Hainburg. A sauna, a steam bath, and an infrared cabin can be used free of charge. Just about everything! Excellent location, beautiful historic building, splendid wellness area, comfy bed, wonderful choice of food and drinks at breakfast. The staff was friendly and quick to respond to any requests. They even let us store our canoe safely at the back entramce, just outside the reception! Breakfast in the monastery courtyard is pure pleasure in summer.

I stayed in 1 of 5 rooms above the El Pirata restaurant. That was a tiny room, but the hot water in the shower was hot, the towels were white and soft, the TV showed plenty of channels. I was a bit late after 22-00 and was lucky enough to catch some restaurant staff who were about to go home and I didn't have to sleep in my car! No noise from the railway across the road. The neighborhood was quiet and charming!

Gasthof zum Goldenen Anker occupies a 400-years old historic building next to the Danube River and the medieval city wall and a 3-minute walk from the Old Town of Hainburg. Just a GREAT Place. Staff was friendly and helpful. The room we were in was large with a nice sitting area, very clean and nicely appointed. The ambiance was very welcoming and comfortable. The location was great as it was just across the street from the bike path and the Danube. The hotel had tables across the street where they served dinner, right on the Danube - so delightful. They also had an open courtyard in the hotel where they served meals as well. The breakfast was terrific and they would cook eggs to your specifications. They also had parking in a gated area next to the hotel. There is an elevated railroad right across from the hotel, but we never noticed any train noise. We couldn't believe this was only rated a 3 star - definitely a 4 star plus hotel.
