The bathroom was tiny, with the hand basin outside in the living part of the room, which was not the best. The bigger issue for me was the poor (if non existant) wifi. The property advertised free wifi, and it was free, but very poor. That was a problem for me. Apart from that, it is a great place to visit and stay if you love the mountains and the views of Lake Jindabyne. This hotel, and the town, are a good stopping off place to visit the snow country higher up. The people were very friendly.
So easy to walk or ride around the lake. The accommodation was close to town so easy to walk. We went horse riding with Thredbo Valley Horseriding which I can’t reccomend enough even for complete beginners and kids. Eating out can be expensive as to be expected. We attended the local brewery and the Wild Brumby Distillery and both were excellent.
The lake, the walking and riding tracks, the proximity to the mountains. We are at the Jindabyne hotel - decent food but service a bit slow and Banjos - again decent food and service quicker but a bit over priced for quality
We love Jindabyne it’s central to everything 20 minutes to ski tube then close to shops restaurants clubs and Horizons is great for kids with all the facilities the pool tennis court etc and the view from all the rooms is spectacular just sitting on your balcony having a coffee winding down is great thoroughly recommend
Needs some more drive through food options eg a McDonalds, KFC or a Hungry Jacks would be awesome. Lovely city , beautiful - needs more activities for the kids - petting farm, choo choo train, quad biking, fishing trips ?
Jindabyne is a small bustling town that is famous for its doorstep to the Australian Alps. There is not a lot of nightlife with limited venues for Apres Ski atmosphere however if you are staying less than a week, this will be of minimal impact. The restaurants and pubs that are in Jindabyne serve quality food, with multiple ski/snowboard hire/shops to suit skiers and boarders of any experience level. Access to Perisher and Thredbo are both 30 minutes drive. Entry to the National Park is a hidden cost of $32 a day per vehicle. Ensure you carry snow chains if not in a 4WD as it can result in a $350 fine during winter seasons. For family’s there are caravan parks and for the more ambitious camping sites in and around the local area. Wild brumby’s is a local schnapps distillery that should also not be passed up. Happy adventuring!
Jindabyne
Yes it is off the main road and up a dirt road, yes it is high, hence the name, however it is totally worth it! We felt so welcome from the minute we arrived by the lovely Chris who showed us around and explained where everything was. The room was simply lovely, very comfortable, warm and a good size. Looking out the window to see stunning scenery and the local wallabies and wombat :-) The rest of the building is very well appointed. Although there are no televisions in the room (who wants one anyway) if you did need a fix there is a tv room with netflix, plenty of dvd's and a mezzanine level with a pool table. There were also plenty of board games and a table tennis table which could be erected if necessary. The dining room for dinner is charming and if you would like to have dinner the food is put up on the board in the morning and you can book in. 2 courses for $35 including yummy bread was very reasonable. There are two fires, a slow combustion heater and a big open fire. How absolutely relaxing it was sitting in front of the big fire whilst sipping a glass of wine. We had an added bonus on the Friday night when the owners cousin did an impromptu concert singing, playing the guitar and harmonica. It was so much fun and we totally enjoyed it. The bar is great and the prices very reasonable with great wine selection. The owner Graham made us feel so welcome and was great to have some good chats with, not to mention rescuing us from the icy road one night! The chef Simon was so friendly and we had a really good talk to him about his travels and native France. The other kitchen and housecleaning staff were also friendly, welcoming and lovely. I really don't understand how anyone could say the staff were poor. We found everyone to be absolutely brilliant. The breakfasts were great and even though it is not a cooked breakfast was more than adequate. The boiled eggs were a great addition and you could just crack them yourself and have on toast.
