Many families visiting Newcastle loved staying at Junction Hotel, Nags Head Hotel, and Holiday Inn Express Newcastle, an IHG Hotel.
Junction Hotel, Holiday Inn Express Newcastle, an IHG Hotel, and The Lucky Hotel are some of the popular hotels in Newcastle.
Everywhere is easy to drive to. Variety of beaches, lake, bays. Close to Hunter Valley Vineyards. Hunter Valley Gardens was fantastic for a family day out. This time of year they have snowfields for the kids to play on, ice skating, and tobogganing. There are rides and food stalls, and a lovely Story Book garden. The Anzac Walk along the cliffs overlooking Bar Beach and Dixon Beach is amazing. The beaches and foreshore are beautiful.
Newcastle is an OK place. Not quite as busy as Sydney with plenty of great beaches. Although the city center does not have a large shopping mall with Myer. David Jones JB hi-fi and the like. The large David Jones that used to be there is now gone, which is a bit of a shame as it did add to the city's charm once. You have to go somewhere like Kotara out the back of Hamilton about 10 minutes away to get the large mall experience. There are smaller malls on Union st and King st with woollies and such. Plenty of food and restaurants on Scott st which runs down through the back of Merewether and Scott st is one of the great charms of Newcastle
Travelled from Sydney on the train. Stayed two nights. I love walking and seeing ships come/go in the harbour. To walk along river towards Newcastle Beach area is always a delight. Always enjoy taking the ferry to Stockton and walking from the wharf to the shops, and seeing nearby bouses. Reminded to earlier Anglo-Celtic Australia. Two hotels near Stockton wharf have excellent atmosphere and food. In fact never had a bad meal at a Newcastle hotel. Food and menu offerings at "The Lucky" were great! Took a bus to Raymond Terrace simply as an excursion. Will return to NCL, stay at "The Lucky" visit past pleasure sights, and look for some new ones. Sydneysiders: you need to go to Newcastle!
I have lived in Newcastle for the past two years and love the place. There is very easy access to beaches. The travel time between the outermost suburb is no more than 20-30mins of light to medium traffic drive. Main public transport within greater Newcastle is via bus routes. Whilst they have buses running every 20-30mins, most routes radiate from the Newcastle to Mayfield area.
We easily caught the lightrail up tp the beachfront from our hotel and from there enjoyed a nice walk up to Nobbys Lighthouse. We ate at Basement on Market street and the hospitality and food was amazing there, would return for sure. We did have a car with us to found it easy to check out Darby Street in Cooks Hill - many little local owned businesses worth having a browse. Merewether is also a lovely town to wander by the beach. We enjoyed a picnic near the ocean baths. We also enjoyed a Mexican feed at Antojitos, an easy 3min walk from the HolidayInn. On our way home we stopped at Newcastle Farmers markets which I would recommend if your'e looking for something to do on a Sunday before heading home
The property should not be called a hotel rather should be called a back packer motel due to lack of cleanliness, maintenance and the elevated cubical fibre glass old toilet and shower not fit for human use. I thought ibis being part of Accor group will have a high standards with cleaning, room amenities, bedding, furnishing & up keeping of maintenance!
We always enjoy our stay at the Clarendon and it is our first choice for accommodation when staying in Newcastle NSW. Rooms available with or without a balcony and the hotel is located at the centre of Hunter Street near a light-rail stop. Everything you need is at the venue including a bar, restaurant and depending on the day, live music. It's also only a hop skip and jump from the Civic Theatre, Newcastle's main entertainment venue other then the Entertainment Centre.
Newcastle
We have stayed at Honeysuckle Executive Apartments before. We like the flexibility and space of having an apartment rather than a hotel room and the location near the Honeysuckle Wharf, restaurants, bars, University and Civic Theatre suits us. The bed in the glass walled bedroom alcove was large and comfortable. Also the size and open feeling of the apartment is a plus and the kitchenette, full size fridge and washing machine would make a longer stay very workable.
The rooms were spacious and clean, ours looked over the beer garden which was great to look into the heart of the hotel. The location was perfect, 10 minutes walk from the beaches (or take the light rail a couple of stops) and a short walk to all the great food options on Darby Street or Honeysuckle foreshore, as well as the great cafes (and the pub) just downstairs.
Newcastle
The buildings are gorgeous and very clean, and despite being close to a noisy pub, my rooms were exceptionally quiet. The staff were courteous, welcoming, and helpful. The hotel is very close to the Newcastle Rail Interchange, but at no stage did I hear a train. I will definitely stay there again.
Its right on the beach but has a massive apartment building in front of it. We had a balcony room which had a good view of the ocean. Only six storey's tall, has an apartment building on top of it. Great spot and probably the nicest hotel in Newcastle city.
Newcastle
Great location. We stayed in a family room which was very spacious. Room had a microwave which some cheaper accommodation don’t have. Staff were very friendly. Room had everything we needed for a short trip to the Newcastle area.
Newcastle
The location of the apartment was ideal. The communication from the apartment with access codes was great. The friendly cleaner who was on staff. Value for money overall was fair. Comfort of the bed met our expectations.
The Junction Hotel is modern and clean and in a great location. We were able to easily walk to Merewether Beach and there were lots of cafes and restaurants steps from the hotel. The room was very comfortable.
Newcastle
A clean and an efficiently run motel. Staff were very friendly and the bed very comfy. located within an easy drive to the beaches, Newcastle CBD and, importantly for us, the Lambton Aquatic Centre.
Newcastle
Comfortable bed, great location, clean unit, bathroom was beautiful and clean. Kitchen fully equipped with cookware and cutlery. Very roomy! Pub across the road for cheap and yummy dinner.
