Noah's On the Beach, Rydges Newcastle, and Best Western Plus Apollo International got great room view-related reviews from travelers in Newcastle.
Newcastle has all the charm of the inner city but without the traffic and crowds. The beach is so close and there is theatres, live music venues and restaurants. If more Sydney people visited they would probably consider moving up there as it sure beats Sydneys traffic and stress.
The property should be listed on the system as Wallsend as there is an Ibis in Newcastle. We thought we had booked Newcastle selecting off the Map but somehow got transferred to the Wallsend property. This caused considerable angst and inconvenience and cost us $80 in taxi fares to get into and back from Newcastle. There is no convenient public transport option from Wallsend into Newcastle Civic area for someone who doesn't know the system. So the mishap with the booking system is our main issue and we believe we should be due some compensation. As for the property itself. It's very basic and compact and unless you want to stay in the western suburbs of Newcastle, or just want something that's not too far off the M1 look elsewhere.
Newcastle IS a wonderful city, spread far and wide like Auckland.Easy to get around, unlike rich greedy Sydney, the ultimate in CORRUPTION.....TOTALLY under control of developers. Nice neighbourhoods, numerous huge green public parks, beaches FAR superior to DUMPS like Bondi. The locals ? LOVE their gardens ! In OVER 4 decades of going to this region, a huge tragedy is the ONGOING substance addiction issues. This is holding BACK the region...... SERIOUS questions for authorities on this issue. Newcastle Beach ? Looks full of sleaze, like Kings Cross under Safron pty ltd & Ibrahim pty Ltd.
Newcastle & the region ? Many nice places to visit & much more enjoyable to get around, compared to "rich greedy Sydney". The tragedy up here, IS the amount of substance addiction & reflects VERY poorly on authorities over many decades......
It is very difficult to get around Newcastle with the number of vehicles and traffic lights everywhere! Very picturesque though and the Shopping Centre at Charlestown was good. Hard to find a good coffee though.
We love visiting Newcastle, there is so much to see and do for all ages all within a very accessible area. There is plenty of places to eat, Darby street and Beaumont are some favourites. The public transport is great if you don't have a car.
