Jasper sits in a green valley within a national park surrounded by the majestic Canadian Rockies. Water in its various forms has shaped the dramatic scenery and continues to create serene landscapes.
Tree-lined Lake Beauvert is the closest to town, but Pyramid and Patricia lakes are more famous thanks to the rugged peaks perfectly reflected in their still waters. Many glaciers come off the huge Columbia Icefield, roughly midway between Jasper and Lake Louise. Some have cut canyons where you can go ice walking. Other winter sports include ice skating and skiing at the Marmot Basin resort, named after local animals.
