Haida Gwaii is a magical place!

Haida Gwaii is a magical place! Pristine and beautiful landscapes and beaches, hiking trails, abundant wildlife, history, and one of the best museums I’ve ever seen! (Haida Museum) The absolute highlight of my trip and a must do is a boat tour to one of the islands with Haida Style Expeditions- the only Haida owned excursion business on the island and the guides are very knowledgeable and friendly. Friendly and quaint with lovely locals.

Friendly and quaint with lovely locals. The pub was a great place to eat and gather. Sapporo Japanese restaurant had great food and welcoming staff. The scenery was spectacular even in a storm. We enjoyed our visit to the Heritage Centre in Skidegate and the island toed really hugs the coast. Very unique.

Stayed a week in the area.

Stayed a week in the area. Traveled up to Masset spent two days exploring (coastal area up to Tow Hill) and the shops in town. Port Clements has an easy walk along the coast , a museum worth visiting and the best pub/restaurant on the island (axe & anchor great view, spacious and new and a menu to appeal to most people) Haida Guaii proper has some interesting shops, heritage centre, several restaurants with a broad range of menues. Be sure to take at least a one day boat tour. Went with Heida Style Expeditions with their enclosed landing craft. Saw whales, sea lions, eagles, hot springs and some giant trees and spoke with a watchman. Best coffee shop on the island Jaggs. Book rentals, charters and rooms well in advance. A unique place and people.

The beaches were great for combing and walking.

The beaches were great for combing and walking. The town was quaint and the people were lovely. We met a few who shared their experiences of living on the island and learned a lot from them about the area. The shops that opened were good when they opened. The activities and services were not open as advertised so be sure to bring your own equipment for biking, paddling, etc. The tourist information was beautiful and very helpful when they were open. Be sure to check out the quilt. Skidegate is just a few km up the road and has a fabulous coffee place called JAGS. they have real coffee and fresh baked goods, even their own oatmeal!

Definitely you need to book excursions for one day and one...

Definitely you need to book excursions for one day and one day exploring by car. You cannot rely on things to be open. Kayaking or boating or cycling would also be good so be prepared.if you go to Masset - definitely go to the only little house bakery/coffee shop for the caramel pastry. Outstanding! Charters food truck for scallop and tuna tacos and in Queen Charlotte, Howlers made 2 AWESOME bevvies! A smoked bourbon and a rhubarb based mezcal. Food was also excellent.
