Featuring river views, Kangding Guozhuang Naan Wu Hao Boutique Inn in Kangding features accommodations, a restaurant, a fitness center, a bar, a shared lounge and a garden. The wonderful women ("sisters") here treated us with such care and hospitality, going beyond what was necessary to help us have a comfortable stay. The food was incredible, diverse, and made with such thoughtfulness. Someone is always ready with Tibetan milk tea or red tea when you enter the main living rooms. The interior design of the rooms and general area is truly stunning, clean and comfortable. There are beautifully maintained flowers everywhere. The beds have heated mattresses for colds nights. The views of the mountains are beautiful, day or night. This became our home away from home on a very hectic trip, so I cannot recommend this hidden gem enough.
Offering a large garden, Gesang Garden is located besides a station highway between Sichuan and Tibet. It offers both private and dormitory rooms with free Wi-Fi access in all areas. Great location in a really scenic area on the road from Kangding to Xinduqiao. Staff are very welcoming and kind (they were always giving treats to my 2 kids who were travelling with us), they organised a car for us to Tagong, which was great as it meant we could avoid the circus of people trying to give you a lift in Xinduqiao town centre. The driver was great and took us to a load of places in Tagong and it's surroundings (and stopped at loads of spots on the road for us to take pics). Xinduqiao is within walking distance for adults, but our 4 year olds legs werent't quite up to it after 3 weeks in China so the owner called us a little 3 wheeler taxi and made sure we knew not to get overcharged for the return journey.
Located in Moxi, A Thought Time Hostel offers comfortable accommodations with free Wi-Fi access. It features a 24-hour front desk and a tour desk. Tibet cuisines can be enjoyed at the on-site cafe. 1. This hotel is able to accomodate foreigners - and it's a big advantage. Hotel owner doesn't speak English, but has a big experience of dealing with foreigners requests, so it's not a problem to communicate through Wechat or a translator. IMPORTANT: When I called him in advance to confirm my reservation he informed me that foreign citizens now need a nucleic acid test for COVID-19 to enter Hailuogou Glacier park, and I didn't know that and without this information I wouldn't be able to enter, so I am forever grateful. 2. Room is designed in Tibetian style, everything is very clean. With warm air conditioning and electric blanket temperature in the room is comfortable. 3. It is 5 minutes walk to bus station where buses from Chengdu arrive and about 12 minutes to the park entrance. 4. Hailuogou Glacier park is just amazing, absolutely breathtaking view. It was definetely worth going. The winter is the best season to go to see the glacier. Park opens at 8 a.m., go as early as possible - you won't regret it. In the morning, 8 o'clock, hotel owner provides pick-up service to the park entrance for free, it's actually just 2 minutes drive. Also he provided crampons for walking in the park, and they were really useful.
Two good coffee shops: the Himalaya and the one at the top of the stairs across the road from the Peoples Place. Paoma Mountain is a good climb with surprises along the way. The two giant prayer wheels are an attraction to locals and tourists alike. The raging river makes Kangding alive with the sound of rushing water! The history of Kangding as the trading place between Tibetans and Chinese adds poignancy.
A lovely town/city with beautiful temples and friendly people. A great place to acclimate for going further up. I enjoyed walking around town and finding hiking paths. Tibetan culture and food was a nice break from Sichuan cuisine. The temples are beautiful! There are nice small shops on the side roads and plenty of local cuisine to enjoy. Walking around Kangding is the most enjoyable way to get around. Several mountians to hike up as well. Some nice coffee shops on the Main Street for wifi and relaxation. I enjoyed the one right by the temple in town.
