Many families visiting Bautzen loved staying at Alte Gerberei, Villa Antonia, and Akzent Hotel Residence Bautzen.
Nice little medieval town with impressive Sorbian (slavic group) heritage. The town was a little bit quiet in January, but still very welcoming. It is pretty easy to get there by train from Dresden (or Berlin) . I would recommend a 2 days stay medieval town exploration, stroll at Spree around the mills and old houses, and for a taste of Sorbian culture and great local food.
Beautiful town. Gedenkstatte Bautzen is worth visiting. There is commemorative nameplate of Czech journalist Julius Fucik and his book "The Report From The Gallows". It is pleasent and recespectable.
A historical town with a very well preserved center with beautiful baroque buildings. Not too many tourists (maily germans) and a lot of good restaurants. A good startingpoint for bicycling, daytours.
Bautzen is a beautiful city. The buildings are beautiful as is the landscape around. As we were there over Christmas many of the places were shut, so didn’t get to go into any of the museums. Still enjoyed our time there.
Cosy tranquil but nevertheless vivid little town, perfectly renovated within the last 25 years. We coould feel the spirit of the town and its multifacetted history. Don't miss the cathedral - a rare example of double-use: catholic in the front part and protestant in the back - with two altars. And try the Sorbe restaurant in town - sorbe meals are great!
Only got to experience Bautzen for a single night, but it was a nice town that I'd like to visit again and spend a few days seeing the sights and getting into the history. As with most places in Germany it's very clean and you can explore the entire town on foot. There are a number of reasonably priced hotels around the city center and getting to-and-from the train station is a cinch, although it should be noted that I don't recall seeing any taxis around, so be prepared to walk. Since the town is so close to the Czech border, you'll notice that a lot of the signs are in both German & Czech, which was a small detail that I really enjoyed. Most of the shops & restaurants were closed during my visit since it was New Year's Eve, but I was lucky enough to stumble upon a Hungarian-Irish restaurant called 'Budapest' and the food was incredible. As their sign stated, they offered Hungarian and Irish cuisine, but I stuck with the Hungarian side of their menu. Their goulash soup was fantastic (lots of paprika!), the accompanying bread was perfect and the Hungarian crepes for dessert were unreal (they had some sort of fruit filling with small slices of honeydew on the side).
The breakfast was good and I appreciated that there were many different choices including healthy options such as fruits and vegetables. The rooms were fine - a bit dated and budget-decor style, but clean and efficient.
