‘The City of Three Rivers’
Known as the City of Three Rivers, Passau is a beautiful German town in Lower Bavaria crossed by the Danube, Ilz and Inn rivers. Situated near the Austrian border, this university city is home to the biggest cathedral organ in the world with 17,774 pipes and 233 registers.
Built in 1688 by the Italian architect Carlo Lurago, the Baroque St. Stephen's Cathedral has frescoes and paintings by JM Rottmayr. Set between the Danube and Ilz, the 13th-century Castle of Passau was the bishops’ residence for several centuries. Travellers can visit the fortress of Oberhaus and discover interesting museums with potteries, sculptures and paintings.
