Many places and historical landmarks for sightseeing. I highly recommend the Historical Park in Samborondon. There are security challenges at the time of visit, highly recommend that you have Spanish speaking skill or a local friend. Locals I have encountered are very friendly. Personally I did not encounter any crime or any dangerous situations. Taxis are very cheap and cost normally no higher than $5. The infrastructure has actually improved since my last visit and I see great future for this city. I highly recommend trying grilled maduro and Pollo Campero. Some people say Pollo Campero is not the same anymore but it's pretty good IMO.

As of June 2024, people warned me that it was not very safe to be out walking around after dark in Guayaquil. I never felt unsafe while walking around in Guayaquil during the day and I didn't have any problems while I was there. I was able to see everything I wanted to see in 2 days. I saw just about everything I wanted to see so I doubt that I would return unless the security of the city gets better. Public transportation was easy to use and there was a good selection of restaurants. The museums I went to were free.MaynardUnited States of America - Scored 1010

I loved this hotel and will stay there again upon my return to the Galapagos Islands. It is the perfect rest spot between flights back and forth to the US. The hotel is perfectly beautiful. The staff was super nice and helpful. The beds were super comfy. The little pool and lounge area with a full bar, although tiny, was a wonderful way to spend the afternoon. Currently, other than very specific areas, the vibe is not good. Security, soldiers and police abundant; and, lots of guns visible. Bars on EVERY storefront. Most stores you cannot enter; you ask for what you need and pay through the bars. And, with a curfew in effect, it’s weird to see absolutely empty streets when there are 3.2 million people living in the city! 😳

A beautiful, safe and welcoming city. People are nice and polite, the prices at restaurants are just fine and the transportation is easy to use and economic. Malecon 2000 was a really nice tour.
