Located 1.2 miles from Abu Simbel Temples, Eskaleh Eco-Lodge offers a garden, a shared lounge and air-conditioned accommodations with a terrace and free WiFi. The best part of the stay was the staff. You are treated like family. The room was very clean and comfortable, plus I never saw one mosquito in my room. The food was good and made fresh whenever you requested it. No crappy breakfast buffet here. It was easy to take a boat ride on Lake Nasser because the boat and dock were on the property. Abu Simbel Tenple is only five minutes away. Another plus was the atmosphere and decor. It was a true Nubian experience with Nubian hospitality. Thank you to Shady and all his staff for making my stay so wonderful.

Must see if you are visiting Egypt. I rate these temples above Pyramids and I have a reason for that. I think Pyramids and other sites in Egypt you will see, admire and appreciate but they won’t stay with you for too long. But Abu Simbel temples will stay with you and will leave an impact not only because of their grandeur but also because of the reason they were built and unprecedented effort it took to save them from being flooded and submerged forever. And despite being so enigmatic themselves, they give you some perspective..It’s been a few days that I have visited these temples but still when I close my eyes l, they appear in front of me…
I would recommend to stay at Abu Simbel to spend the night so the temple could be seen, 1st. without the morning crowds, 2nd. at night to enjoy the light and sound show (very good), 3rd. at Sunrise at 6am, having the best picture light.
Beautiful temples. Worth also looking into the other temples in the desert such as Aurora, wadi el-sabua anf Dakka. It is also a quiet & peaceful small town worth taking a few days to relax and enjoy the resort
If you want to stay more time with the great temples, it is worth staying one, or more than one, night in the town. The town is quiet and clean. There are some small lakes (part of Lake Nasser) near the town, so it's pleasant to walk along the road or bridge.
To get to the temples, get a motocycle truck for 10 egyptian pounds per person. In the summer get there early 7.00 am. you will probably be the first person there. Any later and the heat in July kicks-in around 11.00 am ouch and take a hat and a bottle of water.
Amazing temple. Sun festival which only happens twice a year very crowded . Involved getting there at 3am and sitting in very cramped condition inside temple for 3 and a half hours to see the sun light up the statues for a few seconds only as so many people. Suggest going to sunrise visit day before or day after as sun will still light up most of the statues and some friends went day before at 6.30 am and there were only 40 people there instead of around 3 thousand !!!!
