Rute is a small town with several cafes and bars and several supermarkets. there are several potentially interesting museums too but the Turron museum is open only at Christmas. the ham museum is a shop. the Anis museum is good
Rute is a working Spanish town - not a tourist destination. It was interesting watching the olive harvest being processed. Not far away is Izcajar which is a beautiful small town situated on an island in a lake. That is what is worth the visit.
I have retired from work and moved to Rute from England. Everyone is very friendly and that isn't just a cliche. The people are genuinely friendly. The views are stunning. The town has good facilities (banks, vets, health centres, hardware shops, bars and restaurants, delicious heladeria) and lots going on - muchas fiestas. There are two lovely parks, one which hosts the feria, the other has a small open air theatre. Lucena is bigger and is only half an hour's drive away if you want hypermarkets in the new retail park. Antequera is 40 minutes drive south towards Malaga, a beautiful town with lovely shops.
Rute is a place to use as a base to explore the surrounding area of Andalucia. Rute itself really only needs one day! However, use it as a base to explore Cordoba, Granada etc plus so many other beautiful villages and countryside - then you're on to a winner!

Lovely peaceful setting in the mountains overlooking a lake. The owners were very helpful if you needed it but otherwise left you in p;eace. The property is traditional rather than modern but all the better for that in this rural setting, just a couple of miles out of Rute, a fascinating town. Rute is an exellent base for exploring the surrounding mountain villages and Cordoba is within easy reach..

It was all fine with a good amount of space in my room, functioning facilities and a balcony. A modern hotel.
