Great location, close to everything. Staff were friendly and helpful, especially Karen on reception. The food served in the dining room for dinner was excellent.

I had an amazing experience staying at Gonzalo’s place. He rents a spare room, and it was perfect—comfortable, clean, and welcoming. Gonzalo is extremely knowledgeable about the Falkland Islands and always ready to help with anything you need. His family is equally warm and hospitable. I couldn’t have asked for a better stay. Highly recommended!

Stanley is a small, quiet community.

Stanley is a small, quiet community. It's safe, clean, and rich in history. The civilian population of the Falkland Islands is under 4000, with most people living in Stanley. There's a garrison of 1500 British troops stationed at Mount Pleasant. I hired a 4x4 for three days to explore much of East Falkland Island. The roads are good, but there's only one stretch that's paved, from Mount Pleasant Airport to Stanley. I had a lovely lunch in Goose Green and met some really friendly locals. If I had more time, I would have visited West Falkland and taken flights to some of the small islands.

Stanley is a weathered blue-collar outpost town on a desolate island teaming with marine wildlife. It’s not a place for ‘culture’ seekers, antique shoppers, or fine dining connoisseurs. An hour’s walk outside Stanley and it’s a place of vast horizons, intense solitude, and penetrating silence. The wild and windswept coast, and ubiquitous boglands/peatlands are reminiscent of the UK, Netherlands, and other Northern Europe lands. For an American, it is otherworldly. The closest similar geography is alpine tundra. The town has a handful of quaint cafes and pubs for socializing after a day-long excursion . . . that doesn’t necessarily need transport. There is a lot of countryside (like Two Sisters mtn) and coast (like Gypsy Cove) to be visited on foot or by bicycle. The museum is small but well done, esp. on sailing history. Natural history is very cursory. Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately, Stanley is the only town of note for basing distant excursions. Bike packing would be an awesome alternative. I was puzzled why there was not an equestrian outing business, as that form of tramping would be quite exhilarating and able to cover a lot of camp land in a day’s outing; even overnighting w/pack horses or mules.
